Joined the army because I love airplanes. Wanted to fly them but couldn't so became a crew chief and worked on them. Spent a tour in Nam. Came back and didn't want anything to do with the government or the military. Later decided to change mind and rejoined the military and retired from it.Get a good pension from it and a lot of good benefits. If I had to do it again would go as an officer.

A few of my friends had joined the Corps but i enjoyed the medical field and they had told me about their Docs that went with them so I decided to go in the Navy. Plus I wanted to travel and the Navy did alot of that so I signed up and told the recruiter that i wanted to go with the Marines and thats were i spent my time. Yeah they bash the Navy but they wouldnt let anything happen to their Doc. I always enjoyed being out in the field than stuck on a ship. Semper Fi

Simple... I grew up just outside NAS Moffett Field in Sunnyvale, California. My neighbors were pilots, my Dad was a research engineer who was constantly on DoD contracts.
I wanted to be a pilot, but ran out of college-funds (and Dad's patience)... so I enlisted and went Aircrew. 8 years later I got my commission and served another 7 years.
My lil brother also went Navy via NROTC at UC Berkeley and served 6 years.

I joined the Navy so I would get stationed on a ship instead of a base. I figured I would join the Navy and see different countries. Worked out pretty good. I got to see more countries than most of family has.

Navy, because they offered a rate that would actually get me a job straight out of the fleet. Nuke EM and go figure I don't work in a Nuke plant. I chose the Navy because of the whole see the world thing, and boy did I, almost all the water covered parts anyway. Would I do it again? In a heart beat, do I want to go back in? No way.

Didn't want to crawl around in the dirt. That ruled out the Army and Marines.
The Air Force recruiter wouldn't even come out to our house. That left the Navy. Although I chose not to make a career out of it, I have no regrets. Learned Chinese, and visited a dozen countries.

I chose the Armor Branch. Didn't like the idea of walking to every fight, so riding around in 70 tons of steel with one helluva big gun does give you a certain feeling of invincibility. I enjoy the field time, and the big boom gives me a woody! I've changed to armored Cavalry, so I'm playing a real-life game of hide and seek (loser of this game gets shot at)! I'm the eyes and ears of my commander! I have a really tight platoon, and we are all like brothers. Wouldn't change it for anything!

Self explanitory I think: Including myself, 6 brothers, my father, 5 uncles, my grandfather and great grandfather, 3 nephews and 2 great nephews were ALL Marines. One nephew spoiled that a few years ago going in the AirForce, what a puke! LOL

I was to big of a wuss for the Marines or Army, didnt think I was good enough for the AF, so that left the Navy. I had a new son to think about and didnt want to be a deadbeat dad.
