Tell your parents "when you're lucky enough to find the gift of love, you don't worry about the color of the package!"

Let me give you an answer from a parents perspective. My daughter had just such a talk with her mother and me. We got away from any interruptions, no people, no phone, no Tv.

She completely and totally had our attention. It wasn't easy for her. I had to listen to her say things I didn't want to hear or deal with. But told us she did.

I got mad, she cried, her mother scolded me, but the bottom line was, she was committed to the relationship, and there was really nothing I could do to change that.

Funny thing about time, it really does soften feelings. I realized she was my daughter, I would lover her uncomditionally regardless of what she told me.

Things have turned out pretty well. Being Mexican, the young man's ideas about relationships are far different than mine, and I still get angry from time to time, but I now have two precious grandkids and I wouldn't trade them for the world.

It won't be easy, but you will get through it.

Try to bring up a similar topic and see how they react...they may surprise you. If their response is less than ideal, and you feel very strongly about the relationship, then I would follow the advice of answer #1. But give them a chance before you get in an uproar.

Try telling your family that you understand their views, but you do have your rights to do as you choose. Explain to them that race is not something that matters to you, and try and tell them the best qualities about your partner! Hopefully, they will lighten up and understand! Good luck with everything!

You might want to start by letting them know what year it is. If they do judge you or your partner for it, are they really worth worrying about. How about you try "hey mum, dad - I'd like you to meet *name*". You shouldn't waste time worrying about judgmental people like that. It matters who you like so be honest with them and stand your ground.
