For the Army a veteran may wear the Dress uniforms:

(1) When attending military funerals, memorial services, weddings, inaugurals, and other occasions of ceremony.
(2) When attending parades on national or state holidays, or other patriotic parades or ceremonies in which any
active or reserve United States military unit is taking part. Wear of the Army uniform at any other time, or for any
other purpose than stated above, is prohibited.

Provided the veteran can climb back into the uniform, he or she may wear it on special Memorial Day commemorations and other suitable events. The military chapters in your community can better define such times the uniform may be worn.

My problem is I've grown out since I've retired and I won't be able to wear my jump boots because I'm off jump status. Bummer.

D.M. above defined it well. I had forgotten the Army Regulation governing the wear of the uniform.

1.You MUST have served during a time of war. These dates are defined.
2. The rank you wear cannot excede your rank during that war. Example: You were a Spec4 in VietNam. You make E6 in 1978 and leave after 12 years. You can wear the uniform with Spec 4 only not SSG.
3. You MUST meet the grooming requirements applicable as if on Active Duty and comply with the current regs of the branch concerning the wear of the uniform AND your behavior.
4. You can wear it to "Patriotic" events, parades, to and from military funerals.

It's different for "retired" members.

Each branches Regs. can be viewed online. There is also a DOD directive.
