If the bible is your only "proof", then doesn't it stand to reason that "The Odyssey" is proof of Zeus?

Retort to Jim B's posting.

As one actually holding a Ph.D. in organic chemistry I can state quite objectively that the "old" use of Dr. McCombs antiquated position on L vs D-amino acids (it's L "levorotatory" and D "dextrorotatory", not "R" as quoted earlier) and peptides is quite worn and in error. Christian "scientists" often flock to McCombs as the sole "credible" defender of the faith, as if the repeated reminders of "his" twenty (shared authorship) patents increases in any way credulity.

That chirality of molecules exists and that the "preferred" bio-option for the L-amino acid based protein predominates is truly remarkable. That peptides and proteins originating from D-chiral amino acids are the be-all and end-all is just plain incorrect.

These are but a few examples of research showing that D-amino acid related peptides do indeed exist in nature and serve potentially vital roles in our natural world.

The propensity of L versus D chirality in nature is indeed a conundrum, and one worthy of investigation. To simplify it and ignore it's importance by waving one's hands in the air saying "god did it" as an answer is weak and very unscientific.

Read the book "I don't have enough faith to be an atheist" by Frank Turek and Norman Geisler if you really need "proof" and are truly interested. He started college doubting the existence of God and through much research arrived at some very scientific and very sound evidence that proves the Bible's true and that God does indeed exist. It's quite ironic that the more science has advanced, the more science is now being used to prove the existence of God... ...quite funny considering where the origins of Humanism started (i.e. science, Darwin, etc.). I was a believer when I read it; but am even more convinced I am right after reading this wonderful book.

Thanks Jim B! I know that story too about how the chemical evolution was disapproved. Both the dextro and levo molecules are formed.

From the universe up to the smallest thing known to man, there is an evidence that they do not exist by chance, but rather there is a Designer. Even the structure of single celled bacteria are not simple, they are complex organisms, too.

And please don't compare the Bible with the odyssey. They are entirely different books. The Bible is a collection of books written by approximately 40 authors in over a century. The books undergo canonization and those that we have today are the books that are considered with Divine inspiration, not just a product of human imagination. The writings do not contradict itself. It has survived the test of time (even persecution). Please read the link below so that you will have an idea how the Bible has been preserved.

Did Zeus WRITE "The Odyssey"? Did he inspire the writing of it? Does the book CLAIM to be inspired by Zeus?

Remember all "proof" is subjective. Show one person a daisy as evidence?... and they have all the "proof" they need. It couldn't be here as a result of an ancient random explosion... thus God must have designed what is.

Show another person all the evidences in the world and it won't be enough for them- because they have a bias inside them against it.

Both positions require faith. One uses faith to say "Surely there is a God... it's obvious!"

Another: "Surely not- look at all the evil in the world!" (Which is evidence of satan -not God). But still it requires faith- a conclusion based on the absence of definitive undeniable evidences- to judge either way.

As for me, the miracles that still happen when I pray... evil spirits go; healing comes, etc... that's enough for me.

If there is no God then explain 3 things. 1. How has the Bible survived for all these years?
2. How has Israel still in existence?
3. Where does the concept of right and wrong originate?

A professor at Miami university could answer these questions and he had studied evolution for over 35 years.

Without scientific evidence, we have our own personal experiences to tell us that there is a God. I could sit here at this computer all night and tell you about the miracles I've expenienced but so could many of you. Probably if the pp who don't believe would be honest, they've had some unexplained things happen in their lives whch can only be attributed to God. How do they explain the flood and Noah? How do they explain how all the books of the bible, written so many years apart, by men of God who didn't even know each other, yet did such an awesome thing, recording these things so accurately? How do you explain the changed lives of pp who llived such terrible lives with drugs and alcohol and many other addictions ruling their lives, yet turn away and never be bothered after God delivered them? How do you explain cancer being healed without surgery or chemo? So much evidence!!!

Well to answer we must define proof....

So let's take something we all know exists but can't be proven.

The emotion of Love. (The actual feeling you feel)

When Science proves that the feeling of Love exists, then it's easier to explain why some things are not "provable" in the realms of the physical world.

Many things exist that do not have physical proof.

Many will argue though that evidences in creation show intelligent design.

The person of Christ existed for sure. He's written about even by his enemies. Including the exerpts of pontius pilate.

I have none. Lots of people might say things like watching babies born, sunsets, waterfalls, and stuff like that is proof God exists.

Well I don't think it is. Its great stuff, yes. And it is indeed stuff that GOD made. But how do you connect all of that to God?

I'm not sure that you can.

Its like if you asked me "how do you know your car has an engine" and I replied "i know it because when I drive my car with the top down I can feel the wind on my face" Of course, that answer proves nothing.

Bottom line, you will not find scientic proof that God exists.

I believe in God. Its an ongoing inner happening that I can only shout, but I can't always prove it or articulate it.

Think about it a...the body is a miraculous thing ( design ) you think that is came around by chance or mutation ? The earth being at the right spot in space ? Not too close or too far from the Sun to inhabit life , along with water to sustain us . You know the odds for even one of the above things mentioned to happen , let alone all plus more not mentioned ?

In Paterson, New Jersey, someone saw what looked like the face of the Virgin Mary in a chopped down tree stump at the edge of a garbage-strewn vacant lot. Soon people came and nailed together a crude 'shrine' from a bunch of 2x4s somebody got from Home Depot. Now there is this decrepit slapped-together lean-to standing over a rotten tree stump, but for the Believers, it is all the proof they need.
