I really need to lose weight by October 3rd. I just bought a bike and want to start riding how long and how far should I ride a day to lose weight? I have at least 40lbs to lose so any help is needed and most appreciated. Thanks in advance

With a bike, you should be able to get into a good fitness regime pretty quickly. The key is an hour a day....and you can build up the amount of miles you cover in that time.

Also, look at lifestyle, not weight loss - because if you look at it as just weight loss, it means you can gain it all or a portion back. Try working on the "fringes" of meals, slightly cutting portions, if you have desserts - maybe one every other day - and get soda out of the mix....go with the affordable sports drinks - Powerade or Gatorade.

You have a goal and by working on activity and meals/snacks, you should have plenty of time to take the pounds off and bid them goodbye for good!

You cannot really say how long and how far can you ride a day. That will depend on your health, condition, and have you been working out all along. All these factors must be considered. You say you want to lose weight, well you must start out slow and work your way up, as not to cause an injury. Make sure you stretch before getting on the bike. I mean your legs and back. Riding is hard on both of them. You might also try walking in your routine . This will not only help you stretch but it will help you lose weight. Remember slow at first. Go at your own pace.

You may not want to do this but it is a proven.
At least an hour each day. Pump up your heart rate to 140 beats per minute and hold it at that rate for 15 minute segments. Remember to loose weight, you must mix diet with exercise. No more big or second helpings and cut out the sugars, heavy salt and fatty foods.
Good diet with proper vitamins.
breakfast = Instant breakfast with banana
lunch = instant breakfast with cottage cheese and fruit [preferably ripe raw fruit] No canned sweetened stuff.
dinner = Top ramen noodles with stir fry veggies and small amounts of sliced meat. Omit the seasoning in the noodles and add a good Chinese stir fry sauce and extra virgin olive oil to quick stir fry the veggies/meat combination. When done, usually approx four to five minutes in the pan, then add to the noodles in a bowl. See time on the pack of noodles for cooking time [usually three minutes] Don' t pour off the noodle water, use it in the combination. [There are a lot of different veggies for stir fry out there and many different stir fry flavors so you can vary the taste.
Make sure you take a good multiple vitamin such as Geritol. You need a lot of vit. B for energy. {go for it, I lost 51 lbs in 90 days on this diet. I also walk [mountainous terrain] four to six miles a day. Fast pace. Keep hydrated while exercising. Drink a lot of water or as I do, drink a lot of Propel, a sports drink made by Gator Aid. [much less sugar]] Puts the Electrolytes you loose back in your body.
go for it. You'll sure lose weight and feel better, mentally and physically. Smile
by the way, I'm a 65 year old male.
