Well, often genetic mistakes like this do occur. Also, there are hermaphrodites too. If that child was raised female, has all the traits of a female, has the female hormones, etc. etc. then it is in fact a female. The only thing is, they wouldn't be able to have kids...so it wouldn't matter. They wouldn't have the uterus, ovaries, etc...just the appearance that they are female...unless they did like a transplant for those...
I think this is ok, only because it's not like the surgeries where males are born with a penis and then decide to have their gender changed. It's completely different in my eyes.

Please remember this is my oppinion as a humanbeing, Christian, Pastor. (This is NOT a "thus saith the Lord)
Ok, first I am assuming it is obvious the baby is a boy even without a penis.
Next I am wondering since surgery was done, and it is obvious the baby was a male, why they would make the baby cosmetically female. Instead of some sort of penis which would allow the "truth" to be told to the child.
There are certain things you have to consider
1. Again since there was surgery to make the baby a female, I assume the baby will never know he was born a male. That he will be raised as a female and all the shots and hormones are given to produce breasts and so on.
(By the way this sounds like an episode of "Law and Order" I just saw a few days ago, except in that case it was done because of an accident during circumcision)
2. Must also assume the birth certificate will say female
In this case (IF) there is any wrong doing, it would be in the case of the Parents and doctor for making him female rather than male.
One thing to consider is that, since the child was raised female of course "she" will have been dating men (I assume) there could be very big problems in doing this since he may someday want to get married and have children. If he goes to a doctor (not knowing he is male) to find out why he/she can not have babies and (then) is told She is a male.
If he/she is dating females and appears to be (gay) I feel that the parents should tell him/her the truth and then it is up to him/her what to do.
And that of course is between Him/Her and God.

You speak only of physical attributes not psychological. If this hypothetical person has female chromosomes regardless of the genetic features or lack there-of, the case is clear. Obviously there was a birth defect of some kind. There is a critical stage of embryo development when the budding penis could become a clitoris. If there is a gene out of place, anything can happen. The psychological consequences could be devastating. Only a DNA test could determine true sex. I can only imagine the horror of finding out that I was a man, but didn't have the "Equipment" or visa-versa. Wasn't my fault, I was born that way. Definately no sin there. But as far as "sin" is concerned, I don't believe God judges us by our sexual preference provided that is our mind set or hormone set or genetic set because that is the way we were born, although mind-set is probably more environment than anything else. The people that really sin in any sexual relationship are those who don't care and simply give in to lust for the sake of sex alone regardless of who they have it with. The sin is in spreading VD, AIDS etc. and performing sex acts for pure pleasure for themselves with no regard for their partner and creating children with no commited union between the parents. We "did it" just for fun without taking into consideration what might happen next. I realise this isn't exactly answering your question, however everything comes down to the bottom line of God and Jesus are love and any sin can be forgiven if you want it to be and believe it can be.
P.S. Dusty! After the flood indeed! Yes! Finally someone caught on to how life expectancy drastically declined. Who knows what those "fountains of the deep" brought to the surface?

This is not a tough question for Christians but all loving and responsible parents. It would be very hard to make a decision and at such an early age. Inaction may lead to ridicule and child will have no confidence in going to school if raised as a boy.
For Christian though, we have God to go to and ask for guidance. Only God can show the parents what action to take. If then after the child had an operation to have female gentials and raised a girl, then yes it would be a sin if she married a woman.

There's that word, SHOULD again!
Who is telling this person who to marry? Isn't it up to the person? Many of these... for the want of a better term, "mixed up" people sooner or later discover their "situation." They often have a hard time accepting what has happened to them, and spend the rest of their lives confused.
Anyhow, who these people marry usually depends upon which sex they end up being "comfortable" living as.
In any, and all cases, the Lord knows the hearts of all mankind, and He knows if the person sins or not. Furthermore, even if this person is found to "sin" in the eyes of the Lord, they are also FORGIVEN, as we all are because we all are sinners, and one sin is no greater than another. God also understands the situation these people find themselves in, and He will always do what is right. Whomever the person marries, if the marriage is found "pleasing" in the eyes of the Lord, then... where's the problem? People keep criticizing Christians for being judgemental. So, in this situation, you present a case where we, in our limited human understanding, cannot come up with a judgemental answer for you. Now will you criticize us for NOT being judgemental?
Have a blessed day.

I am a firm believer in the divinity of the lord and the importance of living a Christ like life. I also have spent 6 years in gospel education and mission work, so I feel that I am somewhat versed, but this is a great question and one that I am not about to make or think I am qualified to make, nor is there very many that I feel are. What ever the choice is, I'm confident the Lord is totaly understanding and loving, because that is what the lord does, that is how fair and kind he is. Peace.

Thus sayeth the Emperor Spaced Guy:
Key word in this case is cosmetically. Just because the parents made the kid a girl doesn't mean he was meant to be a girl nor does it mean he is girl. Just because he has no penis.
A better question would be what if someone born with both sex organs wanted to pick males and females. Since the hermaphrodite is both sexes, is it sin?
That would have been a real stumper.

What you describe is a type of hermaphrodite.
What matters under your scenario is what the individual believes regarding themselves. Do they consider themselves male or female?
What of a woman who has all the female features, but hasn't the ability to conceive a child? Is she truly female?
The bottom line is, that those who turn to God (repent) and receive the Holy Spirit are led by that Spirit. As such, they would be led regarding their condition in this regard.
Those who do not repent are in the same condition of all others in the world who do not repent, regardless of their sexual preference or behaviour.

Question: "What does the Bible say about hermaphrodites?"
Answer: Babies that are born with both male and female sexual organs, or characteristics of both organs, are called hermaphrodites or intersex. A child who is in an intersex state is classified in one of three categories: 1) true hermaphrodite – an infant born with both ovaries and testicles and has both male and female sex organs. 2) female pseudohermaphrodite – a genetic female with male external sex organs. 3) male pseudohermaphrodite – genetic male with external sex organs that fail to develop properly, resulting in female or male/female physical characteristics.
In times past, doctors would perform surgeries without first testing the infant to find out its true sex, and the child would sometimes grow up very obviously a man, with female genitalia. Now, specialists can perform an ultrasound, blood test, chromosome analysis, and even do exploratory surgery to find out the baby's true sex. The treatment is still controversial, however.
Some believe that surgery and/or hormonal therapy should begin within the first 15 months of life, and others believe these things should be put off until the child is old enough to make his or her own decision about it. There are pros and cons for each side. Either way, any family with an intersex infant should begin counseling, as should the child when he or she is old enough.
When babies are developing in the womb, they all begin with sex organs that look female. If the baby is male, he begins to produce testosterone, and if the hormone reaches the tissues correctly, the external genitals become a scrotum and penis. Chromosomal or sex hormone abnormalities can produce an infant in an intersex state. It can also be caused by a condition called congenital adrenal hyperplasia, which is a disease the blocks the baby's metabolism. It is not as uncommon as we might think; about 1 in every 2,000 newborns is born in an intersex state.
Babies are not born with physical disorders to punish their parents in any way. Although God created the earth perfectly, it soon brought destruction upon itself with the onset of human sin (Romans 5:12). Before the Flood in Genesis chapter 7 that wiped out almost all living things on the earth, people had the potential to live for several hundred years.
After the Flood, human life spans grew progressively shorter, indicating a change in the environment which resulted in damage to the human genetic structure. This also explains why incest was necessary for the population of the earth in Genesis, but was forbidden later in the laws of Leviticus (verses 18:6-18). Now, thousands of years later as sin continues to permeate the world, the human race has been bombarded with every kind of sickness, disease, disorder and birth defect we can imagine.
It is very possible for a child born with both sex organs to grow up to have a healthy view of sexuality and successful relationships. From early on, the child should be taught how valuable, loved and accepted they are by their family and also by God. He or she is not a victim of divine judgment, but God has a plan for each one of us that will bring Him glory, as we can learn from a man who was healed by Jesus Christ.
“'Teacher,' his disciples asked him, 'why was this man born blind? Was it a result of his own sins or those of his parents?' 'It was not because of his sins or his parents' sins,' Jesus answered. 'He was born blind so the power of God could be seen in him'” (John 9:2-3).
With love through Christ Jesus,
Dusty

This isn't tough nor is it a religious one.
You are looking for sin in the wrong place. The science used changed the child. Why is it religion?
A person makes that decision to alter the child to live as one of the sexes.
There is no sin committed so why are you trying to make one up?
