"The Catholic Church embraces with hope the commitment to ecumenism as a duty of the Christian conscience enlightened by faith and guided by love…Jesus himself, at the hour of his Passion, prayed 'that they may all be one' (John 17:21)." -- Pope John Paul II, Ut Unum Sint, May 25, 1995.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):
By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

Off the top of my head (and having mediated what was almost a fistfight between a methodist minister and a catholic priest) is the whole "do you confess your sins before God, or before a person."
There are a whole lot of Christians out there who would never do the confession thing, therefore (in the eyes of the catholic church) be unable to participate in communion.
And for a close 2nd what about communion? The catholics are the only flavor of Christianity I can think of for whom the sacrements are considered TO BE the body and blood, rather than a symbol of.
Then there's the whole women clergy thing. And the celibacy of clergy thing.

Disadvantage - 1. The whole world being over populated.
Advantage - 1. No more third world countries. The whole world would be in that condition while the Vatican stores up all the riches.
Advantage - 2. No more need to Ask God to forgive our sins, just go to the local Priest.
Advantage - 3. No more need to read or study the Bible, The Vatican will tell us what to do.
Advantage - 4. No more worries about which private school to send your child to.
Advantage - 5. No more worries about which marriage councilor to go to, just listen to the one who has never been married, has no Children, has no fear of losing their job and can not feed their wife and children.
Advantage - 6. Get to kiss the ring on the finger of a man, no need to worry though (anything on those hands are Holy?)

The Greek Orthodox church and the Catholic Church both divided from an earlier church that wasn't really either, so one could say all of the churches spun from the Greek Orthodox church have not evolved from Catholicism.

Advantage- False teaching would be outside the Church and all would have the same truth protected by Christ's promises. All would receive the grace of the Sacraments and the encouragement of the entire Church militant, suffering and triumphant. Man made Churches would be a thing of the past with their false traditions and practices. God's will would be fulfilled that we all be one.
Disadvantages- None!

One united Christian religion under ANY church.
If the church in question really is the one church that Jesus approves, there are no disadvantages.
If it is not, any advantages would be minor at best.

I left the Catholic church because of sexuality and gender issues (I'm a hormonally Intersexed Drag Queen), folks like me would have nowhere to go if there was only one type of Christianity.

Disadvantages-
The violent persecution of anyone going against the Church.
Discrimination against non-Christians
censorship of scientific research if it challenges catholic theology.
Advantages-
The average Christian will not have to think about theology because their priest will do it for them.
