Here are just a few reasons:
+ Church law states at least once a year.
+ Making a good confession is hard. You have to look honestly at those parts of your life that you do not want to consider. Therefore practice makes this difficult process easier.
+ Making an oral confession is good therapy. It is recommended over and over in both the Old and New Testaments:
. + James 5:16
. + Acts 19:18
. + Matthew 3:5-6
. + Mark 1:5
. + 1 Timothy 6:12
. + 1 John 1:9
. + Numbers 5:6-7
. + Nehemiah 9:2
. + Sirach 4:26
With love in Christ.

Say you were to die and you haven't any mortal sins on your account, either because you have confessed any you have committed or because you haven't ever committed any.... You have still venial sins (little things you did without intention) and you would go to purgatory if you died without having confessed. But if you had, you go straight to heaven.

To be absolved of venial sin and avoid Purgatory.
You could die at any time, and it's better to die spiritually clean than spiritually dirty.
Besides, life is more fun when you have peace of mind, and a clear conscience definitely contributes to peace of mind.
