I just rode in the new Acadia. There were 8 of us, and it was great....not too big. I think it's by GMC.

If you want an SUV that can seat 7 and gets good gas mileage, get the all the 2008 Ford Taurus X. It is a crossover SUV that can seat up to 7, but you can take out a bucket seat in the second row to make it a six seater. It was rated the safest seven-passenger crossover in America and has a 263 hp engine that was rated the 10 best engines of the year. Look at the specifications and pictures here: http://www.fordvehicles.com/crossovers/TaurusX/
If you need something bigger that can seat 9 people, you should try the 2007 Ford Expedition. It has a cool feature that you can fold the 3rd row chairs into the floor of the SUV or back up in its normal position in a touch of a button. You can also open and close the trunk door with a touch of a button too. It has lots of space, a big DVD screen in the back for the kids on a long drive, a nice interior, and can tow. You can get the longer version that's called the Expedition EL (which is an inch longer than a Suburban). Check it out here: http://www.fordvehicles.com/suvs/expedition/
Here are consumer reports from people who own the Expedition: http://autos.yahoo.com/2007_ford_expedition-reviews_user/
Your best bet for a family of 6 would be the Expedition or the Expedition EL.

A mini van is best, a "Cool factor" of "ZERO" but, it has enough power with a V6, is not bad on fuel, has a HUGE towing capacity, is really set up comfortably for "Over the road" trips (captains chairs, etc). It's easier to get everyone in and out of, load, has great A/C, etc.
SUV, = Land Rover is a lousy vehicle, way too "Top Heavy" and unstable at hwy speeds if an evasive action must be taken, they skid like Hell.
Mercedes is having a lot of problems with this vehicle. it has one more displeasurable attribute, IT'S "UGLY" AS "SIN" ! that's why the deal's are pretty good on them, they can't give them away, so there is no "Status" in owning one, everyone's impression of them mechanically is "Nightmare", and when seen on the road, the first impression most people get when they see it is "YUK" ! They use way too much fuel, and you get "Low performance". If you think that these vehicles will get you "off roading" just because, of 4 wheel drive, think again, they'll only take you another 1000 yrds into the wood's before you get stuck, and get stuck you will, I've seen them bury themselves down to the hood line trying to get out in four wheel drive.

Looking for a new one myself. We currently have an Expedition and I love it. It's 7 years old though. I'm looking at the Toyota Sequoia - which I love. The Lexus SUV, Cadillac Escalade (though I'm not a gangster so I can't pull that one off) and the GMC Denali. I love the Denali the most right now. I can't decide. I wouldn't hesitate though to get another Expedition - they really are great.

GMC arcadia, saturn outlook and also the buick that is on the same chassis, I forget the name of the buick but they are the newest crossover suv's from GM, nice vehicles with plenty of room for 8 people and get 26 MPG.

have you looked into the Honda passport? or the new Mercedes suv? or the nissan titan, Cadillac escalade, or Lincoln navigator? but land rovers are horrible vehicles. they have lots of mechanical problems. do you want to be driving the kids somewhere and break down?

Since the family will be inside the vehicle, considering the expected $5.00 to &7.00 gasoline, insurance, durability, etc, GO BUY A COPY OF CONSUMERS PRODUCT magazine, or go to their webb site,. I have driven S U V's for over a million miles, over the past 40 years, each brand/ mfgr.,- model, and year made, has pro's and con's. Also, write down how you plan to use it. Go from there.

Unless you go off road or tow something - SUV's are overpriced and inefficient compared to minivans.
If you don't want/need all wheel drive, buy the Odyssey. If you do, get a Toyota Sienna AWD.

Since we quit making the Excursion, how about the Expedition or the Expedition L if you need more room. There will be enough room for everyone. I believe Ford is making plans to produce them with a diesel engine. If they put the 6.4L powerstroke diesel, it will have enough power to do anything you want to do.

It's got a high price, but the BMW x5, or the Acura MDX are both great purchases.
