I am currently taking 25 mg of time release paxil twice a day ( a total of 50mg daily). My depression has eased, some of the side effects are as follows:

I have gained 22 lbs since being on paxil.
I find I do not have the motivation to exercise or be as active as I used to be.
My sex drive has taken a major dive for the worse...everything is still functional, although not as alert as I am accostomed to. The biggest problem is that I just don't have the desire to have sex anymore. This is taking a major tole on my relationship. HELP!!!!!

I'm not surprised. Paxil is an SSRI--a group of meds for depression, and those are common side-effects.

I'm not a health professional, just a patient. Do you have a psychiatrist prescribing this med? Because GPs don't know how anymore. This stuff is too complicated.

Go back to the dr. and ask him to change your meds. You can research which meds might be best on the web. There are lots of sites (NAMI.org) with info on antideps and their side-effects.

Best wishes,

Do not take Celexa if you don't want to lower your sex drive. While I was on it, I actually lost weight (many people gain though) but in terms of sex drive? Heh. Not much. It makes you so tired you just want to sleep all the time and, for starters, you're usually too tired for sex. Celexa can also cause suicidal ideation and I experienced it as well.

I have never used paxil but my ex did and his sex drive was like yours. I was on Effexor XR 150 mg and had no sexual side effects and it doesnt cause you to gain weight. Every depression pills i have taken had some sexual side effect except this one and i really liked it alot. Go talk to your dr about it and see if it might work for you. good luck

Ask your psychiatrist. They are well aware of this side effect, and usually they ask after about 6 months on a medication.

As for your relationship issue, you'll have to ask your partner to be patient. Oh, and learn to use your tongue.

I'm not really sure about the weight gain, but your psychiatrist can probably help with that too.

Of all the antidepressants, the one with the least sexual side effects is Wellbutrin. I took that for awhile and noticed no decrease in my sex drive, etc.

whats more important?

your happiness and well being, which improves ur quality of life

OR

momentary pleasure which will not last

ur significant other should understand, if she doesn't theres a problem. she should support u during ur time of need.

btw, I'm on welbutrin (300 milligrams) and it doesn't effect my sex drive. (I'm a woman though)

Definitely avoid Zoloft, I had a friend who lost his sex drive from the stuff.
