If you only need a copy, you can get one from the courthouse of the county you were born in for a small fee. If you need a certified copy, which is needed for many legal documents like passports, you will need to contact the hospital you were born in and request a certified copy. Again, there will probably be a small fee.

Go online and find the State Vital Records department and it will be located in the state capital where you were born.

They all have an online form you can download, and send in with a small fee...the time varies on how long it takes to get back.

You mine as well get the option with a raised state seal...it's a requirement if you ever get a passport. I would also advise getting a minimum of 3 copies.

See the following link:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/births/obtainingbirthcertificates/index.asp

This is the website of the General Register Office. Read this selected page very carefully for details of how to obtain a birth certificate. Note you have to go to the Local Registrar Office of the place you were born.

Depending on where you live, just by going down to the court house. They will ask for ID and/Social Security Card. There is also a fee. Mine was $12.00 in Milwaukee.

Assuming you're looking for YOUR birth certificate, if you live near the courthouse for the county where you were born, then go there to get it.

Otherwise, you should be able to find a website for the county of your birth....and they will have instructions for how to get your birth certificate. (mail, fax, etc.) Sometimes, you may have to print out their form, fill it out, and have it notarized.

There will be a nominal fee for this, but a lower fee for a second copy, so you might want to order a 2nd, just for good measure. :-)

Go Milwaukee!!!!

Most births are registered before 21 days, that is the law . You can get copies at any time after that from your local register office

You contact the hospital of your birth first. That info may have gone into microfiche by now but they will tell you who to call. You will need alot of ID info incl. your mother's maiden name and other residential stuff from your birth. Good luck.
