This is the first place your body targets when you are dehydrated. Drink lots of water! I recommend purified water and mineral water mixed 50/50. The mineral water is going to put back into the muscles what they are losing on a daily basis.

I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day. Realize that exercise, ambient temperature, and state of health affect the water needs of your body. One tip for athletes: it is healthier to drink a sports drink or water than fruit juice, soda, coffee, or milk during competition or active training periods.

In the evening take a hot bath with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts and soak for 30 minutes. Afterwards , if you have something shaped like a cylinder and made out of hard material (think of a large rolling pin you would use for pizza dough or something) place it under your leg and push down and roll it back and forth...this should massage the spasms out of your leg. It will hurt while you're doing it, but more so the type of pain that actually feels good, in the long run.

Charlie horses are sooo painful. It's when your muscle gets twisted when put in the wrong direction in a relaxed mode. It mainly happens when you're sleeping, because you're so relaxed. The muscle relaxes and when you go to turn they inter twine in an awqward fashion causing excriating pain. It'll subside. Just relax for a few minutes and let the pain slowly dissipate.

Slowly, very slowly, start stretching the muscle that's cramping. You'll feel it give, and you can gently finish the stretch.

People who have charlie horses are often low in Ca, Mg and Potassium. Taking these as supplements often prevents muscle cramps.

it's initially treated by icing. A cramp can be quickly defused with active stretching of the affected muscle. Cramps in the calf muscle can be defused by outstretching the leg, pushing the heel downward, and pointing your toes toward your head. If you feel a cramp starting, this would usually stop it from becoming more painful. Persistent cramps should be treated by a doctor.

Maek sure you are drinking enough water! Charlie horses (and other muscle cramps) happen becasue your muscle is short on water. Also, eat a lot of potassium in bananas and raisins.

You are probably deficient in potassium, calcium, magnesium or Vitamin B6.

Stretching, tensing and massage would help when the attacks occur.

i just let the pain stop. its hard to move after they have already started. But you should prevent them by stretching twice daily.

Massage the muscle and ice. It works for me, but really all you can do is wait.

you have to walk it off it hurts but its the only way.
