Hi! My husband is gone alot so I know all about this. the onlyextra money you are going to see on his check is $225 for Hazard pay. Also his pay is not taxed so you'll see a little bit more from that too. So $1298 is about right.
His family separation pay, per diem, and SAVE pay are paid after he files his travel vouchers when he returns. That's $250 per month Family sep, $150 a month SAVE pay an around $3.50 a day per diem. His family sep and SAVE pay is taxed.

EDIT: We are AF and Army may be different but the AF has NEVER paid his Family sep or SAVE during his deployment. He's on number 6 now. The only extra we receive while he is gonein his pay is his $225 Hazard. We have been told that this is AF policy! he work Special Operations so that may be part of the difference.

Just left Kandahar, Afghanistan
Pay::

Per Diem of 3.50 a day, filed at end of tour minus days on RnR leave
Leave acquired while deployed is tax free meaning when its used, federal taxes will not be applied to that portion of pay.
Tax free but NOT Social Security free (FICA)
Base Pay
Separate rats
BAH*
SAVE Pay $100
HFP (hostile fire pay) $225
FSH (family separation) $250*

*= married soldiers only
FSH is paid AFTER he has been there for 30 days. He will get back pay for the first month on the 2nd months LES.

Tax laws allow for combat pay to be included or excluded for purposes of Earned Income Credit.

His Basic pay also depends on years in service, so I can't tell you exactly what he should be getting there without that info.
You should see on his LES: FSA - Family Seperation Allowance of $125 per pay. BAH - Basic Allowance for Housing of half the full amount per pay period of whatever the amount with dependents is for your zip code. Subsistence Allowance - of $139.94 per pay period. HDP - Hardship Duty Pay of $100 per month. HFP - Hostile Fire Pay of $225 per month, or Imminent Danger Pay, but never both.
Some of these, like the rate of BAH, and the FSA, depend on wether or not he turned in all applicable paperwork. Like proof of marriage/dependents, a copy of a lease or mortgage, etc.

in addition to his base pay and BAH, which remains the same, he will get Family Separation allowance which is $250/Month starting day 31; Hostile Fire/Imminent Danger Pay of $225/month while he is in zone( you only have to be in zone one calender day to be eligible for the entire month) and no federal taxes( but you still pay FICA).

HOWEVER. some command do not pay some of these out until AFTER they return home. Additionally, some troops are also eligible for Save pay and per diem. and sometimes taxes come out, but are reimbursed later.

check out his EOM LES . It should be available on my pay about the 25th of this month.

my husband just returned from afghanistan and is an e-4 you get base pay plus bah and bas and then hazardous duty i think was 225 then seperation pay was 250 then i think another 150 or so for imminiet danger pay i'd say count on anywhere from 300-600 dollars extra a month but you can always check his my pay account and see a detailed list and get his les and check

You get base pay, sep allowance, hazardous duty pay, Bas and BAH (if living off post) all of which are tax free. The ONLY thing you get off of a voucher when he returns will be the per diem. Fot the spouse who isn't getting the others upfront, I would call finance. The travel voucher filled out after redeployment only covers the per diem
