I'm going to be moving back into the dorms before too long and I need advice as to what to do to spruce up the space a bit. We cannot put ANY tacks, nails, etc in the wall. (But if I put tacks, or nails in the wall it really isn't a huge deal because I think I might get charged like $1 per nail hole, and $0.60/tack hole, or something) We also cannot paint the walls. We can use tape to put things on the walls, but it can't use duct tape only scotch tape.

HELP ME! Last year I put a collage of different magazine stuff on my walls, but I wanted to think of something a bit different. Any ideas for curtains would be great too, our windows aren't normal size they are vertical and slim.

The furniture that comes with the room is pretty basic, ugly, old light colored wood desk, & dresser. Metal frame bed, and the curtains on the closet are our school logo on black fabric that are attached to "s" hooks on a track type thing.

Ideas on what to do for me and others in my situation?

I should mention, this is my second year in the dorms so I already know a lot about the different aspects of dorm life!

There is a product for sale at Dormbuys.com called the Cling Thing. It is basically a sticky rectangle that sticks to walls and will allow you to put pictures and anything all over it. There is a product called the Cling Thing Display Strip that is the same idea but a long and skinny roll, kind of like a roll of tape. Imagine having this display strip going all the way around the room. You could hang pictures and whatever else all the way around the room. I guess it could be some kind of new age collage idea, but the pictures would be all around the room instead of on a square or rectangle board. You dont need any nails, taks, or tape to use these products. No fines b/c it won't damage the walls.

As far as hanging stuff up, a product called Glue Dots is perfect. $2.00 per pack and they will hang up all of your posters and tapestries without hurting the walls.

One more idea. Tin signs can help decorate a room and they will help set yourself apart from your friends' rooms.

Dormbuys.com carries all of this stuff.

Go check out PB teen.com (pottery barn) its full of cool ideas. A bit expensive but you can use other sources to buy. I'd get fun bedding and new closet curtains. Also buy a panel curtain for the window same as closet. You can use table runners (walmart,Target etc) to cover top of dresser and maybe desk . You can go to Goodwill or Salvation Army and get a really rococo cheap frame-doesn't matter what is in it. Paint it to match in a bright color-if its gold you need to Spray primer it first-use light gray, then paint or spray paint. Put in a new "picture that is masonite-the home store will cut it for you to fit and put cork on it with spray glue-you can lean it on the desk for a cool bulletin board. Collage fun picts there. Also you can hang a long "laundry string" along one wall and wood (laundry) clip photos or papers with letters to spell something on it-you could even paint the clips-cheap in grocery store-go have fun!

you can use 'poster putty' to put things on the walls. It comes right off after. Put your bed up on risers, they are about 5" tall, one on each corner, bricks will do, to give you storage area under the bed. You need a black out shade or material for a curtain for when you get to sleep late. Select 3 or 4 colors that coordinate for bedding, pillows wall pics or posters, and Japanes lanterns in a vertical row down the narrow window.
Buy cute magnets to go on your refrig if you have one, or anything metal. Get a dry erase board to go on your outer door if someone wants to leave a message. If room allows prop a large mirror so you don't have to go in the bathroom everytime you get dressed to go out. A colored trash can, pencil holder, etc. Don't forget the ceiling or floor, a rug, wind chimes, or more Japanese lanterns. Have fun with color.

Prepare to spend $4 in fines with my idea, but....

Get a huge corkboard and hand it on the wall. You will end up with 4 holes in the wall to hang it (maybe 6) , but you can tack anything on it that you want. And...you can take it with you when you leave without having to take each item down.

My sisters daughter is going to college and she got a magazine for things you could especially for your dorm room. There was a lot of bean bags and pillows and rugs. I forgot the name of the magazine but you may want to googe some dorm room furniture. I'm sure you'll come up with lots of things. Hope I could help. Good luck. . :]
