Oh and yeah and please do LOL. I can just imagine you out there yelling that. I had a Hailey I changed it to Zoe. She seemed to like it better too LOL

One way to do it is to sit down with some treats, say her new name and most likely she will look at you, say yes and give her a treat. Do this a few times, several times a day. You really don't need to do this, she will just start to understand who she is, but by doing this, she will learn her name more quickly and learn to look at you when you say it.

Yes. You can start by using the new name in combination with the old one, then dropping the old name. Or you can just jump right to the new name. Dogs will learn a new name very quickly. They won't have an "identity crisis" like a human. ;-)

I don't normally rename a dog because it's going through a lot being in a new home and everything. However, I don't think I could live with Jazzberry either. You could try shortening it to Jazzie though which is kind of cute. Whatever name you decide on, she will learn it quickly enough. Good luck with her.

Of course, just call her her new name. After all dogs in shelters do not come with names tattooed on their foreheads so get new names while in the shelter, then often new names in their new homes. My dogs all have "real" names plus nicknames and know them all.

It will take some work for her to recognize her new name but that is fine. Most of my babies came from the pound and I never even knew their names. But they learn fairly quickly.

Of course she will.. Look at all the dogs that show up at the shelter.. No one knows their name but they are adopted out and they learn new names and get along fine.

Dogs adapt to a new name easily enough, just look at all the shelter dogs - who knows what their previous owners called them, they then get used to a name at the shelter/rescue, and probably yet another name at their final home.

If you're consistent with using her new name, she'll soon realise that's your name for her.

You can rename her as long as you get her a new name tag. But it will take a while for your dog to adjust to the new name. Just keep on calling her whatever your new name is, and dont call her Jazzberry otherwise she would get confused when switching to a new name.

Hope this helps!

My dog answers to all kinds of names. His name is Scooter, but he responds to Scoot, Scooterbug, Bug, Dum-Dum, and Sh!t Head.

Just start calling your dog a new name. To get her to recognize the new name, get a little titbit (a piece of cheese works well), walk across the room or yard, call her by whatever name you want to call her, and offer the cheese and praise her. When she consistently responds by expecting a piece of cheese, just give her the praise. She'll learn her new name in no time.

Sure you can rename your dog. I got my maltipoo from a shelter, his name was Spence(did not look like a Spence to me) I dont think he would remember that name if I called him by it , hes adjusted to his new name very well and its been about 6 mos now.
