If you don't have anything like a pedigree certificate, its hopeless.
You have to have at least some reference to the parents. But even with that, its a long shot.

If you got the dog from a reputable breeder & they were breeding pure breed dogs & could provide you with the Pedigree paper.
AKC papers doesn't have anything to do with Pedigree.
Nope, not one thing.
If you did not get Pedigree Papers & AKC papers you have a pet quality dog.
AKC Registry has NOTHING to do with a dogs Pedigree.
AKC papers doesn't prove you have a pure breed dog.
In order to get a pedigree you'll have to know on a few doors & creat your own family tree by tracking down who sired what litter & who were the grand parents, the great grand parents & the great great great grand parents, on & on down the line. You probable won't be able do this but it would be interesting to see how far you would get. Huh?

If he is registered, you can either get a copy of his pedigree from the AKC, or from a private pedigree company. Many are listed in the classified sections of Dog Fancy and Dog World magazines. If he's not registered, you can try asking your breeder.

Is your dog purebred? If so, the breeder can tell you about the parents and may provide you with a pedigree. If your dog is registered with AKC, you can order a pedigree online if you have the AKC registration number. Go to: http://www.akc.org

If you know the parents information, you can try:
http://pawvillage.com/pedigree/
It's not complete, but I was surprised at how much information was available. Otherwise, you can contact the AKC, as previously mentioned.

If you know who one of her parents are, and the dog or the parent is registered in one of the Kennel Clubs, you can request a family tree from the club. It costs around $25.00 but it is worth it. I did it for my 2 dogs and found out they were cousins and I bought them a year apart. One of my dogs was registerd with the American Kennel Club and the other was registered with the Continental Kennel Club. I got trees from both and they matched. Really cool.

You have to find out if the litter was registered. With this number you contact the AKC and go from there.
