there is much debate here. But generally, what I have studied anyway lol, is that the soul is the breath of life that God gave you (Gen 2:7) that will one day return to God (Ecc 9), the spirit on the other hand is a collective term. One's spirit comes to you when you become a believer and you become born again (John 3:3), all believers are one in the collective Spirit of God.

Our body, we are a soul, animals are souls, everything living is a soul. The spirit is the life force that animates us, it returns to the true God who gave it when we die, it is not a personality or anything like that, just the force of life. The Bible explains it quite well at Genesis 2:7, Job 27:3, Ecclesiastes 3:18-21, 9:5,10, 12:7, and Ezekiel 18:4, Psalms 104:29, 146:4.

When you Wake Up in the Morning, YOU know who YOU are (that is your First Mind, YOU--a spirit).

If YOU (a spirit) try to remember something right After you wake up, it might take a while for your Soul (second Mind) to work with your Brain and Remember it for YOU.

Drink a little coffee (the Soul can affect the Brain---the Brain can affect the Soul) and you might remember it faster, oxygen helps the Brain, which helps the Soul.

Ditto.

SPIRIT- The Hebrew word ru′ach and the Greek pneu′ma, which are often translated “spirit,” have a number of meanings. All of them refer to that which is invisible to human sight and which gives evidence of force in motion. The Hebrew and Greek words are used with reference to (1) wind, (2) the active life-force in earthly creatures, (3) the impelling force that issues from a person’s figurative heart and that causes him to say and do things in a certain way, (4) inspired utterances originating with an invisible source, (5) spirit persons, and (6) God’s active force, or holy spirit.

SOUL- In the Bible, “soul” is translated from the Hebrew ne′phesh and the Greek psy·khe′. Bible usage shows the soul to be a person or an animal or the life that a person or an animal enjoys.

In other words, we are a soul (Genesis 2:7) and we have a spirit (Psalm 146:4).

You have all covered it quite well, I just had to make a comment....

It wasn't until I saw how many of you had compared our Body, Spirit, and Soul as being tri-une that I had to laugh because up till now, even though I had actually said this long long ago once, I had never seen it in print and how complete the answer actually IS! LOLOLOL

Peace be with you all :)

it depends on who you are and how you see things. in my opinion, soul is what God has given you. spirit on the other hand can be seen as the personality of a person. sometimes these two words are used in the same context and some times they can be interpreted as two different entities. You could say "spirit of God, or spirit of the holy ghost" or you could say "that guy's got high spirits." It depends on the context of the sentence the word is put in. I hope this helps.

The soul is like a zip lock baggie that encloses the spirit.

The spirit constitutes the supernatural "essence" of each individual.

Your spirit is your consciousness and your soul is your mind. To hear from your spirit you must quiet your soul. As long as thoughts are going through your mind your spirit cannot communicate with you. They do not speak the same language. The mind screams to be heard and the spirit has a small still voice. (kinda like god, huh?)
