Since you do not know then you need to be trained in how to train your dog. Go to puppy classes and learn.

There are as many training methods for dogs as there are breeds. The breed of the dog rarely matters, it is the dog's temperament that matters. ALL pups chew, some breeds that mature slower like Berners until 3 yrs old but dogs do chew some all their lives so always need chew toys. Find a puppy kindergarten, they are great for socializing and puppy training. You can use food to lure the pup into sits and downs. All pups need to be taken out frequently on leash and praised when they potty. How often depends on the dog's age, usually it is their age in months plus 1 hour so a 8 week old pup goes out every 3 hours. When the pup is around 6 mos you can take him to an obed. class and he will learn more. Teach him from the beginning what you want to do or not do when grown. If you do not want him on the furniture when grown, never allow him on as a pup. Instead of his jumping on people teach him from day one he gets petted only when his feet are on the floor preferable when he is sitting.

You would train it like you would any other dog.

Puppy training is not breed specific.

Take the pup to obedience classes, they teach you how to teach the things you want to teach your dog. All that you mentioned & more are covered in the obedience classes. You can even go into advanced training if you wish. Classes aren't very expensive & are VERY well worth the money.

You can see how your dog compares to the other dogs in the class. Big dogs, little dogs, all puppies or learning basic obedience for the first time. You'll have fun, make new friends, learn a few things & get your dog trained at the same time.

Sometimes a dog will do something off the wall & the whole class is laughing. It is really a lot of fun.

i recently got a great pyr. everything suggests that large strong willed dogs respond well to clicker training. If you type in the type of dog you are getting on wikipedia it has some great history as well as some training ideas best suited for your dog. good luck
