divorce, television, cinema, internet, men with long hair, women wearing trousers, women wearing mini skirts, single mothers, women in jobs of relevance...
Why is it that when faced with something new the attitude christians have is to disagree but finally they end up accepting and even welcoming in their lives what they previously rejected?
dont christians learn from experience? why dont they start being a bit more open minded and like this they wont have to excuse themselves any more as , for instance, why do they get divorced now when yesterday they were sending to hell everyone who got divorce???

Actually, you are the first person I heard saying that... Christians disagree with the kind of divorce because once they agreed to legalized it, Marrying would as easy as some kind of a trial and error, when you find fault to someone, it could be easy for them to divorce again. And what for is the reason of marrying, if you will later look for another women when you find faults.
And where did you get that info that they hate movies, while there are christian movies? Internet, while there are christian sites? Women in job, while lot of professionals were women?
As much as possible their women avoid mini skirts to avoid seduction to mails, and avoid such maniacs that could be found anywhere.
There are some christian churches who prohibits trousers when going to church and long hair, but not all.
I also don't know that Christians rejects them maybe the right words is "correcting them". As much as possible when you have done something wrong, Churches are like rehabs that accepts the weak and helpless, Corrects its children and love them. Well that's our church.

men with long hair, (erm Jesus!) single mothers, (erm Mary was a teenage unmarried pregnant woman unsure of who the father was) women in jobs of relevance...(erm Mary Magdalene a prostitute a very relevant occupation)
why don’t they start being a bit more open minded (more open minded for Gods sake they believe in an invisible man nobody has ever seen who lives in the sky who made the world in six days, made man, fancied some spare ribs and made women. They believe a great flood came and every species on the planet fitted on a ferry. That this fellow turned water into wine and not the other way around like we all do. That a hippy came here stayed up on a cross he could have jumped off in his hover boots and 3 days later appeared as a ghost then shot into heaven. And you say they are closed minded!)
Beside that I don't know.

You are not ignorant, don't call your self that. You can ask any question you want, it makes sense to me. I know we Christians can come off pretty judgmental sometimes. Some of us really don't want to be that way, Yes, especially divorce. This was never God's intention, it has to do with human sin. We are suppose to be setting an example in this area, I know, but we fail don't we. God does not send people to hell for getting a divorce and Christians that say this are not speaking the truth. As a christian I try to represent Jesus the best that I can, I don't want to judge anyone, but I have set a standard for myself and try to follow the best I can. I accept everyone for where they are (no matter how they dress). It is up to God to take a life and make the changes to be more like Him. We are all trying to learn, each day and we do make mistakes. Please forgive us.....

The unfortunate but straight forward answer:
Many of today's Christians don't read their bibles anymore to see what God permits and doesn't permit. So the bible is replaced with traditions. It is true that God's rules never change and are absolute. What was sin 2000 years ago will always be sin until the end of history.
If the bible clearly instructs the 1st century Christians not to eat popcorn, then by golly, I'm not going to eat it either. But if the bible doesn't say that at all, yet a congregation does, then by golly, I'm going to eat popcorn while looking for a bible-based congregation.
It is written that God's word is a light unto our path, not traditional rules. To answer your question, you probably got a dose of "religion" instead of biblical Christianity.
The Pharisees (the religious folk of the day), at one time sought to honor God but eventually got too wrapped up in traditions that they didn't recognized their Messiah when he did come. So instead they had him hung on a tree (which was really God's plan all along).
Remember that Jesus said the letter kills but the Spirit gives life. Many good intentioned denominations started out in the right spirit but eventually became legalistic by the letter. Others just stopped basing their beliefs on God's Holy Word and are now patting people on the back who are on their way to Hell.
ATTN: spuirt - LOL now that was funny. True but funny. I think you left a line out. Something like "It was good enough for great great great granny then it is good enough for me".

What you fail to realize is that the divorces, TV, cinema, Internet, men with long hair, women wearing trousers etc...came from a Christian society and for the most part identify themselves as Christian.

Sorry honey. But you've got that all wrong. What you're talking about is trend. Not new things. What we've learned is that trends do not make people happy. Superficiality does not make people happy.
Rampant divorce and meaningless sex do not make people happy.
Trendy clothing that costs so much and never lasts.
We don't eventually accept those things. We never will.
As for divorce - it happens. It isn't accepted. It's very hard for Christians. You really shouldn't poke fun at something that causes people such pain.

Why is it that you assume ALL Christians are like this?
Why can't you learn that we are not all alike? Why can't you comprehend that most of us are open-minded about new trends? Why can't you understand that it is faulty logic to make sweeping generalizations?
Why can't you be a little more open-minded and realize that you are off base?
Will you admit that you have made a mistake here by using the word "always"?
Why don't you post statistics for all of us to see proving that Christians ALWAYS find it difficult to accept something new.,
I want to see a list of trends, dates they were introduced, percentages of Christians who rejected them but later accepted them, etc.
Please include percentages of Christians who sent divorced people to hell.
Looking forward to that....
By the way, another person cannot send you to hell.

I am a Christian and I totally see what you are saying. Don't forget ice cream... I think it was wrong to eat on Sunday's at one time as well as gambling, but now they have "Christian" poker chips that I have seen. Jesus told a parable about a guy who was rebellious and turned his back on his dad. His brother didn't, however; after his brother came back around, the wholesome brother was judgemental toward the rebellious brother. I think that parable shows that there are many of us who, if we aren't struggling with rebellion, we are struggling with being to legalistic and judgemental. I am not excusing it. I have had to get rid of quite a bit of it in my own life.
BTW I have never heard of any Christian saying the internet is bad.

Christians are not unaccepting as a whole. I am a Christian, and a firm believer in Jesus Christ and his teachings. You may have the common mistake of CATHOLICS instead of Christians, which is very different. Catholics are very stern that their ancient ways are the only ways of the world. Christians, including Evangelical churches like mine, are very accepting, as long as it follows the biblical standards. If you get a divorce, you can't have sex with another woman, because that is considered adultery. If you care for me to explain further please feel free to email me at aaalelievre@hotmail.com
God Bless you

You are asking a question which is OBVIOUS. Christianity has it's FOUNDATION in the "past." It's FAITH is built upon that "past." The only NEW that will ever change that IS either Jesus or God coming on earth and ADDING the "new" to the "old." Everything else matters little to them and whenever they don't agree with beliefs, they conjure up this "God told me story" and start a NEW sect of the same ol' same ol' ONLY with the changes in their worship ways.........Of God ? Doubtful, but they seem to say so...........
