They say "You can't step one foot outside the house" but how do they know because some houses are bigger than others? Is it based on range from the box? Walls couldn't count because there are walls in your house? Couldn't you just move the box around? Has anyone ever tried to manipulate this?

Oh yeah, people get arrested all the time for messing with their ankle device/base unit....and they go to prison for it.

The machine doesn't know how big your house is. So when they come out and set it up, they set it up for a certain distance. Something like 50 feet, 150 feet, ect depending on house/yard size from the base unit.

Has anyone ever tried to manipulate this? - Probably
how do they know because some houses are bigger than others? - They might not, but why risk it? The parole/probation officer could drive by your house while you are out and off to prison you go.

Individuals who are referred to home detention are required to wear an electronic monitoring device (ankle or wrist bracelet) and are restricted to their homes. Depending on the circumstances, individuals may be permitted to work, attend religious services, doctor appointments or tend to other personal needs. (The Sheriff's Office charges initial set up fee for electronic monitoring.)
In addition to the monitoring device worn by the offender, deputies are assigned to monitor and supervise offenders 24 hours a day. Deputies make unannounced home visits and in the case of individuals who are permitted to work or attend to other needs, make unannounced visits to these locations. The set up for this service is $50.00 set up fee plus $10.00 per day with fees paid in advance.
