I have heard over the years that cats and dogs to not really "know" they're related! This may or may not be true, but if they do not, and one kitty has been queen of the house for these past 3 months (Welcome home, Buttons!) it could be that she (Daisy) has established her territory in a new way that she never had to do when sharing it with Buttons as a little Kitten.
I have rather recently acclimated MY Mr. Buttons (yep!) with a (feral) MISS KITTY (now vetted and cleared and healthy) that he brought home one night after 30 hours in the neighborhood, and did so carefully, as he had never lived with any other kitties. We petted them both as much as possible. brushed them and gave them treats, talked to them both and shortly, they both felt confident to share the space with one another.
They are really cute now, and love to chase and play, he is 13 and she is 2....they look a little alike, and he waits for her to come inside, just inside the door, when she goes out to look for lizards and chase field mice.
I know the company is great for one another.
Your vet may have some kitty suggestions, as well!
Good Luck!

Congrats on getting Buttons back! I had a cat run away once and it was one of the worst feelings in the world for me. The cats have probably forgotten that they're sisters and were best friends and once knew each other. Give them some time...they'll get used to each other again. As long as they're not hurting each other, everything should be fine until they each get used to having the other cat around. Hope this helps!

I think that you need to segregate them for a little while...let them check each other out under the door. Maybe put Buttons into her own room for a day, and then remove Buttons and let Dusty spend some time in there. Repeat as necessary until they adjust or remember each other.

This is normal behavior. Hissing and avoiding each other is not fighting. Each cat is warning the other to "Keep out of my personal space!", that's all.

Keep a close eye on them, and allow them to get used to each other. They've been separated a long time, they don't remember each other at all. Their memories don't work like ours.

If they are fighting, believe me, you will know. There will be a lot of noise and blood. A fight between cats is nasty. If you're careful they will not get to that stage.

And don't try to separate them by pulling them apart with your hands, if they do really fight. I made that mistake once, and came close to losing an eye.

I think that Dusty is angry with Buttons because she probably feels Buttons abandoned her and abandoned the Kitty Clan. Don't force them to be friends or sisters again. Show them equal love and attention. Dusty might also be angry cause she lost the scent of her sister. In that case, place something that smells Buttons nigh Dusty.

Don't worry. They'll be friends again. They need to get used to each other.

Check for fleas and ticks. You may want to get the returnee checked by a Vet.

It's a territorial thing. Throw them both in the closet and let them work it out.
