Does it look like a pet cat, or does it look like a stray?? If it's a stray then I would totally call animal control and have them deal with it. I know some people don't want to do that because it's usually a death sentence and I feel that, but at the same time we as pet owners also have a responsibility to our pets and if he's causing harm to your cat, then we gotta do what's best. If it's a pet cat, I wouldn't hesitate to snap a pic with my cell and post bulletins around my 'hood. If I get a response, I'd explain that their cat has been terrorizing my cat and kindly suggest that they try to limit their cat's outside time and/or get their cat fixed. That's what I would do, anyway...

Keep your cat indoors. This is good for a variety of reasons, not just the problem you are facing right now. Indoor cats lead longer, healthier lives and stay free from diseases, fights, ticks and other dangers like automobiles etc. If you haven't done so already - get your cat sterilized. This is also beneficial for the cat's overall health.
Better find company for your kitty indoors rather than exposing him to feral cats who may fight and injure your cats.

Well, if you have a camera or video camera, take pictures and/or shoot videos of your cat after it just got beaten up, the criminal cat, and the owners. Also pictures and/or video of the cat leaving to go outside. That way you have proof.
I would sternly warn him one more time and if he does not do as he promises, I would call AC on him.
Another thing is if you are in an apartment you may be able to tell the manager about what is going on and maybe they can work something out.

I feel for you,as my cat got beaten up last year by a really mean cat. My problem was solved because the other cat ran away and never came back. Can you keep your cat in? I know it's hard and the cat will be upset but it might be better if he does stay in. Good luck! I don't know what else to say.

The obvious answer is to have your cat be a completely indoor cat, of course. That way you won't find him hit and killed on the road, injured in fights, exposed to fleas and worse--or attacked by dogs, raccoons, kids, and old men who don't have brains in their head.
You can easily do an indoor/outdoor thing by taking him outside WITH you and staying with him till you bring him in. No cat HAS to be outside if they've got a litter box indoors. It's safer, they're less likely to pick up feline leukemia or FIV, parasites and other nasties. AND you can have peace of mind that nobody's going to take your cat to the animal control people and say it's a stray they want put down.

If this man does any harm to your cat - AT ALL!!! - take it to an animal hospital for an exam, and explain to them what happened. If you cat is injured, they can call the police. Cruelty to animals carries fines, and sometimes jail time, I think, depending on what was done.
Try spraying the cat that is attacking yours with a hose or spray bottle, if you catch it in the act. This won't do any harm to the cat, nor will you get into trouble for defending your cat from harm.

A purr-fect solution would be to retrain your cat to be a complete indoor kitty. That would eliminate the danger of being run down by a vehicle, as well as any danger from that other cat or its owners. But, if you don't want to do that, you have to call the animal control. They have ways to handle malevolent beasts and malevolent owners!

These are 2 reasons why cats should not roam free...animal attacks and cars. If your cat gets hurt, it's only because you let him outside. What responsible pet owner thinks it's OK for a beloved pet to cross a street???

I live in NC. It depends on your county. But, think about what you are saying. You are blaming your neighbors for the exact same thing that you, yourself, are guilty of...letting your cat roam around and fight. If you are so concerned about your cat, you need to keep him inside. It is YOUR responsibility to keep your cat safe. Not your neighbors. It is not their responsibility to pay your vet bills. If your cat happens to win a fight, are you going to pay their bill? I doubt it. You need to keep your cat inside. This is what happens to outdoor cats.
