TOOTHPASTE!
I know it sounds crazy, but toothpaste will dry it out, and it will stop itching. It has to be the paste kind, not the gel kind.

Ice will help too.

Also, the girl 3 above me who said put an X on it with your nail is right too. I always do that. I don't know why, but it works.

First of all, don't itch it. Second, mix baking soda with water until it forms a paste, and then put the paste on the bite.

White vinegar and baking soda mixed into a paste a slapped on, bliss.
If that doesn't work, wet a paracetemol and rub that over it (Dr Hilary Jones off the telly told us this once)!

Use your nail, and put an X into it. I stops the itching and i think the swelling, and it is really easy! Some people also say to put saliva on it after you have put an X in it!

My mother taught me this. Apply clear nail polish to the bite and let dry. It seals it from the oxygen. It works instantly...

a paste of baking soda and water- or meat tenderizer and water. the best store bought stuff is called calagel though-it works on any itch including razor burn

I know you said home items, but there is a really good ointment that takes away the itch completely. (band aid ainti-itch gel--I got it in kmart)

Wet a vitamin C tablet and rub on it.

Try meat tenderizer.
