When you believe your religion is the absolute truth? Have you ever stopped to look at why? I have looked at the evidence for and against religion, but religious people seem to surround themselves with their religion and nothing else-almost not wanting to know about anything that could cause doubt! Do you think this is a healthy way to look at any subject or is the fear of death too great?

Jeff A-"Be honest with yourself, atheism has a pretty dismal track record when it comes to human rights in countries where atheists are in power"

Really? Where are the worst human rights issues-That illegal camp the US set up in Cuba? Perhaps some countries n the Middle East where religion is prevalent? Western Europe is possibly more atheist which has a FAR better human rights record that the rest of the world!!
To use christian logic also-'They are not real atheists'
Just like evil christians aren't real christians..

You would think that if their god was actually there that it would make itself apparent to us nonbelievers.
Here comes the canned answer 'he is you just aren't listening' - wrong, because if he were, he would make it obvious and there wouldn't be any nonbelievers.

No, I don't wonder why there are so many doubters and non-believers. I used to be a doubter myself. One time on here I asked atheists WHY they're atheists, and I found that their reasons for not believing are the same as mine were.

Anyway, I've looked at the evidence for and against as well, and I don't surround myself only with stuff that supports my religion. That's why I own Origin of Species, Carl Sagan's Universe. That's also why I've ordered Letter to a Christian Nation and The God Delusion. I'm not afraid to test my faith.

But your question goes both ways. There are MANY non-believers who won't even THINK about reading the books that religious people suggest. And the REASONS they won't read them is because they've read other peoples' opinions on them (people who have said the books were crap). Which is dumb.

I'll read anything I can get my grubby hands on. I've always been this way.

There are a lot more believers than unbelievers, so I could turn your question back around to you. In spite of that, I do believe that believers need to listen to the objections of unbelievers so they may really understand why they believe what they do. We should not only talk to fellow believers because that will stunt our intellectual and spiritual growth. If we are not challenged, we will not grow. What I don't understand is why so many atheists are so hostile to believers. They want to focus on the shortcomings of believers and ignore the many positive contributions they've made to society. How many universities, hospitals, or charities were founded by atheists? Be honest with yourself, atheism has a pretty dismal track record when it comes to human rights in countries where atheists are in power.

Hey, thinker! I am proud of myself in that I DO look at other religions.
Christianity is right for me. It's right for lover half the people in the world.
I do want to know more, and I appreciate the information that some of you post.

I agree with you that we all need to be more open-minded. Christians can learn from pagans and atheists.
The opposite also holds true.

Since becoming a Christian I have found that a lot of things that used to interest me don’t anymore. I almost never turn on the TV or go to movies. This is nothing to do with fear of doubt. I went 30 years doubting. I’m finished with that. But a lot in our culture really turns me off now.

And I have no fear of death.

Your analogy isn't apt. enable's attempt it this variety: You: The bomb is falling on Oct.18th, all of us evacuate. human beings rush around like loopy, yet they evacuate the area in time. Then the bomb fails to drop. After the bomb scare, it quite is what you may desire to declare: You: nicely, no guy might understand the hour or the day, yet have confidence me, that bomb is going to drop quickly. Evacuate. Others: Yeah, yeah, that's what you suggested final time. Wacko. You: do no longer scoff like the sinners scoffed at Noah. some time is coming. Others: whilst? You: 2012, some think of. Others: Yeah yeah, that's what you suggested approximately 2000. in certainty, have not you human beings been awaiting this bomb for 2000 years, from the time the bomb grow to be first lifted interior the heavens above us. You: i'm attempting to maintain you out of affection. Others: And what if we don't want to be stored? what is going to happen? You: nicely, i will shop attempting to cajole you, even to the factor of particularly getting into your face approximately it, yet have confidence me, it particularly is to your man or woman good.

Matthew 7:13 "Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it.

Matthew 7:14 How narrow is the gate, and restricted is the way that leads to life! Few are those who find it.

Not a Christian but I too believe that in order to follow the path of truth one must always question their beliefs or have them questioned, which is why I am here.

The only thing that believers can go back to is the bible. Man wrote the bible so it does no good to quote a book written by man to us. Christians are much more closed minded then atheists will ever be. Maybe they are afraid that we might have a good point and are afraid of finding out that we might be right.
