In general, yes, for an evening wedding, you can wear black.
However, it's a good idea to confirm with someone close to the wedding that it will be a formal event. In particular, considering this is on a holiday weekend that makes people think of beaches and barbecues, I'd double check before buying the dress.

yes, women wear black to weddings all the time. I was at a wedding a few months ago where it seemed like all the female guests were wearing black dresses.

The only color that's really off limits to weddings is white since that's the color the bride usually wears. If it's a formal evening wedding, a black dress would be fine.

As for if you are attenting the act wedding, no. Black is for the dead, and represents the dead. For whatever reason, that is what we do in America. In others eyes, you would kinda be representing that you dont want the marriage to last or you dont care or you dont respect there wedding. But it all depends on how much black you are wearing. If it just has a little black, dont worry about it. Or a min black dress, should be fine! As for the reception, most people do change. So if you wanted to wear something black then, then I dont seee why not! Good Luck!

This generaly tends to be regional. Here in the North East its rare to see women not wearing black any time of day, but I know that in the SOuthern states black is strictly forboden.
Could you let us know where you are located?

Most definitely. Black is certainly appropriate for evening weddings, and also an elegant shade. I'm sure you won't be the only one wearing black. Go for it!

That poster was right - in the NE everyone wears black to weddings. It is elegant and flattering. It is perfectly fine.

I married this past May at 5:30, and my bridesmaids wore black.
A lot of the guests wore black as well, and looked classy and gorgeous-yes, wear black!!!

my first thought was that it's traditionally considered bad luck to wear black to a wedding....but after everyone else's answers, perhaps that day/age and idea is over? or perhaps if the dominant color wasn't black it would be alright....i could be wrong though....just my own thought i guess.

It is disrespectful to wear black to a wedding as well as white. It represents that you have some bad feelings towards the bride or groom.
