Justifying my beliefs or answering a person's question are two different things.

If you're asking me questions just to burst my balls then you can lick my boots, but being curious and wanting to learn, yea I'll tell you about my thought process.

Well when people actively kill for their beliefs, it's certainly reasonable to hold them up to scrutiny.

It's religion that's making middle class, educated people strap bombs to their chests and blow up buses... it's blind belief that makes engineers and architects fly planes into buildings... it's religion that causes people to blow up health clinics or murder homosexuals with an axe...

Religion has given society nothing but evil, and has spread ignorance to boot. If religion had it's way we'd still be in the dark ages that it cast us into in the first place.

It seems that beliefs which cause hatred, ignorance and mass murder should require justification. And completely absurd religious claims on the nature of reality (and trying to force these myths on children) should be held to the same strict standards that everything else is.

I am with you. Answering a question can lead to what looks like a person justifying their beliefs but that is because the person is trying to answer the question. Trying to justify your beliefs I think is when you have to talk even yourself into trying to believe them.

Some religions require their parishioners to spread the word. So that is what may be happening. I guess it depends who these people are.....best friends? Relatives? Neighbors? Co-workers? Strangers? If it is a stranger, just walk away. If it is any of the others, I would just be nice. When they have finished, simply change the subject. They probably feel like they are really doing some GOOD for you! haha.

Well, it's good to share why you believe in something, but you don't have to. I have a muslim parent and a Christian parent. I love them for giving me Freedom. I read the koran and the Bible all the time. I have to say that Christians, you guys are truly blessed, Christianity is the most awesome! only good stuff...being good, doing good, and Jesus is good, and Jesus is God! We will be glorified by the blood of Jesus. I haven't been to heaven or hell but believe me, do what Jesus tells you, (I do)..doing only good, love your neighbors, and loving the enemy as you love yourself, and you will be seeing heaven. But remember, stand up for your beliefs, and don't try to disprove Islam(can be easily done w/ almost anything), no don't try to even insult it, because their scriptures tell them to kill you.

If my beliefs were a motivation for certain actions that are consequential to others, then I am fully prepared to attempt to justify them. Fortunately, I don't have beliefs.

I do not think anyone should have to justify their beliefs. You can stand up for yourself. But really what you believe is your buisness.

should could would, all are poor expressions of the language, in my opinion. But, I do not justify my belief system to anyone, it is simply mine.

I do. No one owes an explanation to anyone about what he/she believes. No one is obligated to justify his/her beliefs.
