Okay, here's the problem. I'm a 13 year old girl. My parents are both smokers and I'm getting really worried. I don't like confrontation so I put this piece of paper that said "Please consider quitting, we're all worried." and taped it on the inside of the carton of cigerettes (big box). Then I taped a piece of paper that said, "You haven't a clue what's happening to your lungs." on the back of the lighter case and a picture of a lung with lung cancer. I was thinking that maybe that would help somewhat.
Now they've saw both papers, and I'm worried. I'm worried that when they get home, they're going to yell at me. They usually do and I was just trying to help. They just won't understand what's going on in my mind because the nicotine has got their brains all screwed up. It's what happens everytime I try to convince them to stop or to say anything, in general.

Please help me. I don't know what I should say when they get home. (should get home in an hour) Thanks to those who helped.

Tell them that you love them and are worried, just as you stated in the notes.

Good luck to you.

I think your notes were very considerate. If they yell, than they are just being defensive. I am 35 and a parent now myself, but when I was little, both of my parents smoked too, and I wanted them to stop. I tried those types of things too (notes, pamphlets, crying, yelling, etc.)

Sorry to say that none of them worked. My parents have both quit smoking now, but not because of anything I did. They each quit when they were ready. My dad quit 9 years ago just out of the blue one day. My mom quit this February when she had to have open heart surgery because of her smoking.

Even if they yell today, just explain that you did it because you love them. And most importantly, DON'T EVER SMOKE! I have never had even once instant where I wanted to try a cigarette because I hated it in my parents. At least it taught me not to get addicted to it.

Good luck.

You did a brave thing, no matter what they say. I wouldn't get upset, if they say anything at all, simply say. "Mom and dad, I love you with all my heart, I want you to be alive when I have kids. I want you to stop smoking." And every time they say something, just quietly say you love them and you want them to quit smoking. Don't give up but realize its not that easy. They are addicted to something that is really hard to stop but if they want to, they can. Good luck.

Well calm down first of all. and All you did was write notes because you love them. remind them that is why you did it. secondly and mostly, you cant make some one quit smoking but I think you are so sweet. you can also try crying everytime they light up. thats what my daughter about your age did and it I have to say helped me make up my mind to quit, good luck.

just tell them that you love them and that you would like to see them around for a long time and see you get married and have babies and see your babies have babies =)
