Well, all the Star Wars guys have an action figure. So do Spiderman, Bratz, Barbie, and even the M&M guys. Up until now, the Bible is the only fictional story left out of the toy scene. Now the circle's complete!
I like to see the bright side to this: Do you realise that anyday now, some kid is going to be admitted into an emergency room because Jesus' head got stuck up his a**? Maybe another kid will be upset when her pet gerbil sinks Noah's Ark in the bathtub! See what I mean?

When I think of the horrifying tortures my action figures went through, I'm not sure that giving kids a Jesus action figure is going to engender the kind of reverence and respect that most Fundamentalists are probably trying to instill towards their deity.
The mismatched G.I. Joe body parts from Baron Karza's Body Bank alone would probably give them nightmares. Imagine Snake Eyes with Scarlet's torso.
And the Star Wars guys didn't fair so well either. Turns out Snaggletooth can withstand multiple .22 rounds to the chest, but C-3PO just asplodes. R2 units don't stand up well to lawnmower blades, and Han Solo on the BBQ makes steaks taste funny for weeks.

These toys have been out for a couple of years. Last year(or the year before) the creator of the toys wanted to donate a large portion to the Marines Toys for Tots at Christmas and they rejected them, saying that the Marines would be endorsing religion if they did accept them. Later on during that same week the Marines did in fact accept some of them because they got a lot of flack from many people saying they are being donated and they rejected them. Another group who were collecting toys for kids accepted some more of them

Ok, so now you're going to find Jesus next to the Transformers. So what? They're still selling them, it's not like they're giving them away. Is Wal-Mart making the toys? No, they're selling them like any other product on a trial basis. If people don't want them, they won't buy them and Wal-Mart will stop carrying them. How is this encouraging the fundies?

I have sensed that for some time. I think there are subliminal messages going over the p.a. system. The other day I was in walmart and I thought I was going crazy because I heard something over the p.a. And, yes I would totally buy the Jesus action figure.

I hope these don't sell well. Or they should at least offer "alternatives", I think an action figure set of Wodan, Thor, Freya, Loki, and the other Norse gods should be sold next to them.
And definitely some Greek pantheon action figures, why would children want to play with lame mythology like Daniel or genocidal maniacs like Moses when they could play with Zeus or the heroic Hercules?

Encouraging fundies by carrying Biblical character figures? Does that mean they are encouraging streetwalkers by carrying Bratz and My Scene?

I think I saw a question on this yesterday. No, Wal-Mart is encouraging money flow into their pockets. If Muhammed action figures would sell, you'd see those too, right next to Church of Satan Barbie and yoga action Gandhi.

well all i can say is, the christians think thats a good thing now, what happens when people start burning these things? they will be against it quickly i'd have thought.
though in some ways its a good idea i think, though jesus should talk in hebrew, not english with an american accent, because if he speaks hebrew, unless the kids also speak it they are going to get bored really quick but if its english they might like it, but thats not giving a fair view of what jesus was said to be

That is very scary to me. Children should play freely without worrying about gods, demons, floods, hell, and scary Bible stories. Now some parents out there can further shelter their children from the rest of society, keeping out all secular influences. Children should think through things for themselves when they're old enough to understand this kind of stuff. Their childhood should be for playing, laughing, and developing. When those children get older, they will either rebel and break free or become radical parents themselves.
