A year is a long time. You are both likely to change a lot in that time and you may or may not still want to be together. Don't require him to be a monk, and don't put yourself in a closet for a year. You both need to keep living. If he is worth having, trust him and let him trust you. But if you are worth having, trust him enough to let him go if that is what is best for him, and hope that he will do the same for you.

What the heck is happy camp? Not being mean. Just confused.
Is it like Basketball Camp? But instead of Basketball you work on you happiness skills. :-?
Perplexing.
At any rate....maybe he will....maybe he won't. Have fun for the year while you wait to find out. Meet people! Flirt! Go on dates! And if you see him next year at happycamp then great! I'm sure you will have a blast.
Sounds like your young. Enjoy it!

You don't say why he is leaving for a year or how serious your relationship is. If this is a serious relationship and he has a good reason to be gone for a year and you want to, then wait. If this is not a serious relationship or he's just going away because he chooses to, then I would let him know that if he comes back in a year you may or may not be free to resume the relationship.

He says he will, so take him at his word. If you don't trust him, then maybe you're not right for each other. Remember, if he backs out, you can always dump his @ss.

It doesn't matter what we think.
What does your heart say?
What is he expecting you to do in that year?
