I find it funny that some of the people who answered read only your headline and not your story, as it was written by a soccer fan, not a christian. People are so stupid, particularly when they don't read.

Some people do indoctrinate their children and we as adults need to think about that and say "what are the facts? Is this really what I believe? Will it make me a better person?
What are the people like who are in my parents religion?
Jesus said "test them by their fruits."

You are an adult now. God left it all up to us. It's a personal thing and he left it up to you to choose. Just hope in the final analysis you don't find out your choice was the wrong one and your moms was the right one.

Yes, mine taught me that my heritage was bound up in fried okra, fresh tomatoes, peaches, fried chicken and collard greens. I love most of them and feel nostalgic about fried okra, and thrilled that my niece likes it, but I'd rather go hungry. (And, twice a year for collards is enough.)
Upbringing and geography will only take you so far.

I don't know a religious person who wasn't indoctrinated as a child, myself included. I'm an atheist now, though. Glad I broke out of those chains.

Um, yeah... that was my up-bringing.
Its a typical issue that atheists like to bring up... the fact that christians are only christians because of indoctrination
