Is there anything else that does the same thing?

I have 3 different scratching thingys around the house, and they still use my furniture! What do I do? The squirt bottle method doesnt work for me because I have a toddler. If I leave the bottle laying around, she squirts everything. And the tape method wouldnt work either. She would mess with it.

Hm. I have a cat that has no problem with oranges or orange peel. I'd be curious to see if orange oil works! Are people using the outside of the peel --- where the oil comes out --- or the inside of the peel? What about an orange or lemon-scented furniture polish?

Sometimes rearranging the furniture can work as well. If you place your scratching posts near where they sleep and at entrances to rooms and places where there is the most traffic, that may be enough.

People sometimes place scratching posts in dark corners and couches in the center of the room. Cats scratch for their nails, for stretching and also for scent marking which they want other cats to notice. They like to scratch where their markings and their claw marks are visible.

Also, clipping the tips from their nails makes them blunt and less able to do much damage.

It is true that cats don't like the scent of orange peel: Mine will run the other way, with looks of horror on their little faces. I understand that bitter apple spray is supposed to dissuade cats too.

If that doesn't work and you don't want to declaw your cats, go to Petsmart and look for a product called Soft Paws. What that is is little tips you can put on your kitty's claws that will make it so they can't scratch.

Good luck!

Yes! Cats HATE citrus anything. My cats wouldn't stay out of my veggie garden so I threw a bunch of orange peels in there. They never went near it again.

My cat is weird so don't listen to the fact that my cat likes anything. But it should work if not (exaple) put foil if your cat hates it anything your cat dislikes and if it gets way out of hand you might need to declaw them...or buy new furnature every time they destroy it.But that is last resort.trust me it doesn't bother them after awhile. My parents forced our cats to be declawed. Our older one took longer to heal because her paws started to bleed the day we were supposed to pick her up.My other cat scratches the couch non-stop even though he has no claws. But please don't do it if you don't have to.Goodluck!(=^.^=)
