after he sleeps, after he eats or drinks, after he plays and every half hour in between... put the effort in now and you will be rewarded with a well housebroken pup.. won't take as long as you think... if he has an accident in the house and you catch him doing it,, say UT UH and gently pick him right up and bring him right outside... if he has an accident and you don't catch him in the act.. pick it up ,SAY NOTHING and ask yourself how come you forgot to bring him out.. they do give subtle signs when they have to go,, you have to watch for them (circling, sniffing, wandering away from the play area etc) keep your eyes open. ((( ahh,,, an aussie,, they are super super smart and this won't take long)))) and YES ,, aussies NEED to be living inside with you... they are way way attached to their owners... they will do anything to please you.... also,, get involved in agility or obedience or herding with your pup,,,, they NEED to work.. and they excel at everything they are taught to do.... and if you allow your pup to be bored... he will excel at becoming create/destructive.. so remember,, give that aussie brain something fun to do...... enjoy

Dogs don't use potties, that's for kids. You should take him out on the leash straight after sleeping, eating and playing - that's the times when he's most likely to want to go. Puppies at that age can't hold it for more than an hour.
This time will gradually increase but it's best to play it safe for obvious reasons! If he's sleeping inside, you may have to be prepared to get up to take him outside during the night or face the consequences (!) or he may sleep through - some do. Good luck and don't forget - every time he wees/poos, praise him like he's won the Nobel Prize and give treats.
If he goes indoors, take no notice at all - never, ever punish because he will have no idea why you're hitting him, never rub his nose in it because he will just get a dirty nose and won't understand why. Roll up a newspaper and hit yourself with it (it's your fault) and make a mental note to take him out in good time next time!

You shouldn't even have him at that age. That puppy should still be with his mother, he's missing out on a lot of things that you will never be able to teach him.
A seven-week-old puppy doesn't have control of his bladder and he can't hold it--when he needs to go, he needs to go; so taking him out every hour or so is probably the best considering his age.
Pups usually need to go as soon as they wake up from a nap, after chewing on toys, after playing, and a few minutes after eating or drinking water. Hopefully the puppy has 100% of your supervision and you'll be able to get him out after doing the things that I have listed or when you see that he's sniffing around a lot (which is a great way of telling whether your pup is about to go).
When he goes to the bathroom outside then praise him, give him a treat, and act excited. If the pup has an accident indoors and you didn't see him, ignore it--there's no use to disciplining him hours or even minutes after doing something wrong because he won't be able to put two and two together and he'll end up being scared of you.
Good luck.

sounds like your doing well so far. i would think maybe every 2-3 hours. or 15 mins to a half hour after he eats or drinks anything. after awhile you and your puppy will learn when he needs out. sometimes you can feel his tummy and you'll be able to tell when he needs to go or not. The best way to house train a dog is to not let them have a chance to potty in the house. does he have a kennel/crate to sleep in while your not with him? most dogs wont potty in there crate unless they really really really have to go. so he should be in there whenever you cant give him all your love and attention. then when you take him out, take him directly outside, and if he doesnt potty within 10-15 mins put him back in his kennel for a little bit then try again.

Since he is still very young every hour should suffice. He should especially be taken outside 10 minutes after he eats or drinks anything. His bladder is small and given his age he cannot hold it for longer than probably 2 hours. And be sure that every time you take him outside you say "go potty" or something similar so he learns the phrase and what it means. Also praise/treat him when he goes to the bathroom outside so he learns that outside is where his bathroom is. Because it is never too early to start potty training.
Good Luck

Hey Zeek and new proud parent! I put my puppy out five minutes after he eats or drinks and so that he knows that he needs to go potty on the grass. Actually, by doing it like this for my puppy, he was potty trained in a week and he never had an accident inside. Furthermore, I put him out every 45 minutes and whenever he started sniffing around, particularly as he walked in circles. I kept a potty training pad (weighed down with rocks) on the patio directly outside of our back door for when he sniffed in circles and we couldn't make it to the lawn. I might sound silly, but I trained him to go with a secret word and so that when I take him on vacation to the beach, I'm not the silly owner saying "Go pee pee" in a baby voice and causing all of the other dogs to laugh at us. My word is "hurry", and when I say it, my dog goes on cue. (I used a clicker training technique) I sure do hope that this helps! Enjoy every moment with you new furry baby! I hope you bring each other plenty of smiles in the years to come. Keep smiling!

The general rule is a dog can "hold it" for as many hours as it is months old. Example, a 2 month old pup should be taken out at least every 2 hours.

If hes doing good with the schedule that the two of you have why change it ? You seem to be doing whats good for the both of you, so don't change it. If you change it, it might start having an affect on him having accidents in the home. Stick to what your doing. Pretty soon he will let you know when he wants to go out for a potty

About every 2 hours & crate the puppy at night. Good times to take your puppy out is after he has taken a nap , and after eating/ drinking. My husband has a Aussie , it took only 2 weeks to housebreak her.

1.After he eats
2.After he wakes up (naps and morning)
3.Before both of you go to bed
4. If none of the above happens with in a hour take him out anyway
**Make sure to reward your puppy after going potty outside, even if he only tried**
