NO, the Windsor will not work. You need a Romeo 4.6L, The cars used a Romeo engine and the Trucks used the Windsor. Be careful if its in a Mustang, Thunderbird, Cougar, Town Car, Crown Vic, Grand Marquis it will work. As another post had mentioned there are differences in the engines. You also should pay perticular attention to the intake manifold if it looks very different it may not work, because the later engines used power improved heads and that will make a difference.

Yes, if you want to do things like rewire the dash and replace the wiring harnesses and stuff like that, too, any Ford 4.6 V8 (or 5.0 V8, for that matter) should be doable in a 95 Ford Thunderbird.
If you want to do a direct swap with no hassles, though, you're limited to the 94-95 Thunderbird and Cougar engines, and contemporary Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis. Possibly 96-97, as well, but I'm not 100% on that (I know there are some compatibility issues with aftermarket parts between 96-97 and 94-95, so it might not be a direct swap. I'd want to use the ECU from the engine I'm using, at any rate.)

seek your junkyard for a matching 3 hundred and sixty 5 days T-chicken with a use in a position 5.0 and trans. be certain you get the 5.0 H.O. engine. there's a distinction between the typical 5.0 and the severe output version. additionally be certain you get the main engine wiring harness and workstation from the donor automobile. acceptable wager, is to discover a wrecked 5.0 Mustang, T- chicken, Mark VII, which you will hear run and confirm that the engine is in good working order, then swap aspects as mandatory. do not subject approximately oil leaks, they may well be fixed formerly the engine is put in. it relatively is going to likely be a particularly difficulty-free swap because of the fact this engine became an option on your automobile. i've got heard mixed comments on that vortex component, some like it, others hate it. i've got by no ability used one and by no ability will. i think of if it became that large, the automobile manufacturers might use them as everyday kit. do not waste your money.

Before you get into a big nightmare listening to some idiot, Ford made 2 different models of the 4.6, one was the 4.6L Windsor and one was the 4.6L Romeo. Although they look similar there are a lot of differences, one being the number of bolts in the flywheel, one has 6 bolts and the other has 8. Shop around and find the right engine and save yourself a headache.

you can use a 4.6 out of something else as long as it came from the same plant (romeo, windsor) make sure you check the oil pan, intake, valve covers.... if you are using a later model the heads are different, injectors may have different plug-ins, the dipstick may be angled diff., and the oil fill spout on the v/c may be shorter or taller. you shouldn't have a problem if you are just using a short block.

yes... you could put anything from a lawn mower motor to a V12 into a thunder bird... its just a matter of how easy it is to do. What you suggest should be very easy.
