_Our Family Tree: An Evolution Story_ by Lisa Westberg Peters would be a good starting place for the 8-year-old but too childish for the 11-year-old.

Also good: _Life on Earth: The Story of Evolution_ by Steve Jenkins, _The Tree Of Life: The Wonders Of Evolution_ by Ellen Jackson, and _Darwin and Evolution for Kids: His Life and Ideas with 21 Activities_ by Kristan Lawson.

The Skeptics Society has some great literature for kids on evolution. In fact, this months issue has a complete write up on it...

When I was 8 I was reading National Geographics. They have a lot of evolution articles.

something with the help of Cornelia Funke (i.e. the theif lord, inkheart, inkspell, dragon rider) The "His darkish components" sequence "escape from reminiscence" those are a number of my favorites, all very fantasical and adventerous. have fun with!
