Is it a state requirement?

2007-07-18 09:56:03 · update #1

I am an insurance agent in Missouri. I am taking a poll. We have had so many claims this year alone of our insureds being hit by uninsured drivers. Is there enforcement other than registration renewal in place in your state?

Liability insurance or proof of financial responsibility is required here in California. However... the car that I bought new on 12-31-04 has been hit twice by uninsured drivers. Both by people from "south of the border". They will get insurance long enough to get tags for the car and stop paying the premiums.

Yes. You are required by law to keep insurance on your vehicle at all times. If you don't understand why, read back through these questions and see what happens to somebody who has an accident and no insurance.

It's the law in almost every state. Driving without insurance is WAY up there on the list of really dumb things to do.

Liability insurance is mandatory in all states. Other types of insurance are optional but highly recommended.

Everyone of our vehicles is insured, even the "toys." While it's state law, I like that it protects me in case of an idiot encounter.
