It won't ever go away completely. That is normal for Chihuahuas. You do need to be careful of it, but it's not that hard to do. Ask your vet about it next time you are there.

An Open Fontanel is an opening in the skull of newborn puppies. Smaller chihuahuas are more prone to have larger openings and some never heal. Larger, more standard Chihuahuas get these too, but as they age, the opening begins to heal and most heal shut completely. The skull of most animals, have lines separating plates in the skull. In small toy breeds such as Chihuahuas, this is referred to as a soft spot and you must be very careful not to push on this area or bruise it as there is a direct opening to the animal's brain. This is also referred to as a Molera. Not only does this occur in Chihuahuas, but other toy breeds and small breeds are susceptible to this problem.

all dogs are different. When she gets to be a little older maybe a week or two more if its still there i would take her to the vet but, just wait for now and see if it goes away and if you dont feel confortable then take her now. A bunch of people online can not see the dog or how big the soft spot is and most of the people answeering (including me!!) cant give an answer that is good enough...only vets know..well because thats what they went to school for. seriously talk to the vet!!
good luck with the puppy!

This is very common for Chihuahua's. My 7 year old chihuahua still has his. It usually does not cause any problems with the dog, but in a rare case it could start to ooze, my vet said. Just ask your vet about it the next time you go and they will give you better details. I would not be concerned with it though. :)

Normal. The bone needs time to grow together, just like a baby's soft spot. 11 weeks is still very young.

She's still a baby. My girl chi still has a soft spot and she's 3 1/2. It may grow shut and it may not. It's no cause for concern if it doesn't!

They will have soft spots for about 6 months or longer as they are growing. That's how long my chihuahuas had them.

Chihuahua's "soft spots" don't close like people's do. It's called a "molera." Check out this article:

Runts tend to be late bloomers in everything. It'll go away. In time it will. Dont worry about it.
