I'm a pharmacy technician. I don't live in San Antonio, but I live in Houston...which is not that far from San Antonio.

The program is 9 months. Certified pharmacy techs make around $9.50 to $20 an hour, depending on where you work and how much experience you have. Some pharmacy techs make even more...depending on experience.

There are pharmacy tech programs at practically all community colleges. The program you're going to enter will help get you prepared to take the national pharmacy technician certification exam. Once you pass the certification exam, then of course you will officially be a certified pharmacy tech and will be qualified to work at all retail pharmacies. If you want to work in a hospital pharmacy, then you will have to take an additional certification exam to become an I.V. certified pharmacy technician. The I.V. pharmacy tech exam isn't $120 like the regular national pharmacy tech exam, and it is more difficult. But I.V. pharmacy techs make more money than retail pharmacy techs. Retail pharmacy techs are the most common though...retail pharmacies consist of CVS, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, etc.

Nationally, the average pharm tech salary is about $13 per hour. In Texas, you are required to be certified.
