No, there is research proving that there is no such thing as a "sugar rush". So don't let anyone tell you otherwise :o)

NO. Someone did an experiment a few years back giving one group of kids sugar candy and another group sugar-free candy without telling either group what they had. Both groups started acting rambunctious within a few minutes. It was all in their mind. Of course as soon as one of the kids came down from his "high" the others quickly began to drop also.

I remember learning in some class that when eating artificial sugar your blood sugar shoots up and then rapidly falls, when you eat something with natural sugars the blood sugar does not go up and down so drastically.
Have you ever taught a group of students after feeding them cupcakes and juice to celebrate a birthday party. It is not a fun thing which is why we generally feed students those things at the end of the day.
Sugar will do it for some children, for some children the additivies in the juices or other foods will bother them. It would depend some on your metabolism, and some on how much sugar you eat, as to what you might react too. It also depends on how much sugar is in the items you are eating or that your children are eating.
Yes sugar can make kids hyper, some more than others. So please don't send lots of it to school.
:)

It is actually an allergic reaction that makes their brain cells fire more rapidly than usual. That is why it does not affect some people, but it usually does affect family members. I have a friend whose oldest is highly allergic. If she has the smallest sugary food, she starts to bounce around and talks nonstop for anywhere from 30-60 minutes! When she does not have sugar, she is very mature for her age, and in many ways can talk and think like some adults already. This is the same with the other additives to food that someone listed in another answer. Again, it is why some people are affected while others are not.

For some kids, the answer would be yes. For others no. I think they are just like we are, they can have a sugar high and then crash. The only time I've ever noticed a difference in mine was when they had alot of sugary stuff and not enough regular food.

For most people, sugar does cause them to have excess energy. Sugar is a sort of cell activator, causing the metabolic process to speed up. However, our bodies can't properly process artificial sugar, so be sure to only consume a minimum amount.
For others, sugar does nothing, or even slows you down. Personally, sugar doesn't do much to me. In fact, I'm wired backwards in some ways. Most times if I take a medication, like Tylenol PM (which should make you sleepy) I become energetic and can't fall asleep for hours. If I were to take the daytime one, I would almost instantly fall asleep. It all depends on your body chemistry.

In my experience it is the additives in the snacks.
example ; caffeine (chocolate and soft drinks)
red dye : candy and certain juices
sugary drinks : kool-aid, capri sun
fruit has natural sugars, milk has natural sugars, many of the foods we eat contain basic sugars or carbohydrates that are processed as sugar. So I don't believe candy or plain "sugar" can be blamed for a change in a child's behavior.

No my kids can eat sugary stuff and not change their behavior. So many parents say kids dont need any sugar........ no tv.......... no down time.......... No spanking, Im not one of those parents.....
I dont force my kids to do anything during the summer they dont want too...... if the chose to sleep until noon so be it............. its their vacation..... during the school year they are up early............ and up late due to activities and homework. They work their butts off all school year so if they choose to be lazy all summer i dont mind.
They swim daily, and ride their bikes because they want too not because I make them.

People who think sugary drinks are a pick-me-up may be in for a letdown:
New research finds sweetened beverages actually boost "sleepiness."
