Not at all, once again, you have been lied to by your pastor Steve. When will you come to the conclusion that he is not a very good or reliable source for information? And that for someone who is meant to tell the truth at all times, he is failing miserably.
Edit.
Steven, I am the best reliable source in this case because I am one of the Atheists you are making claims about. My guess is that you are a young man, trying desperately to make a case for God, because deep down inside you have significant doubts. I can tell this by the agressive, assumptive nature of your questions. You are attempting to paint Atheists in a box, in order to justify your beliefs. I feel very sorry for you, because you are building your belief about others on lies and half truths, instead of getting to know who these people are. I think if you go about it, trying to learn about Atheists, instead of making claims about them, you may get farther.
If you would like, message me, and lets start a dialog. I promise to be honest, and will tell you how I got to where I am at as an Atheist. I was once an avid Christian like yourself, but still appreciated learning verses accusing. Drop me a message.
Rebellion doesn't create Atheists, it creates non practicing Christians. The Prodigal son was in rebellion, but still believed that his father existed.

I'm 60 years old -- hardly young. I confess, I've always had a deep loathing for arbitrary authority and the abuse it inevitably engenders. Still, "rebellious" is not a word I would use to describe myself.

I'm 41. I've only been an atheist since my 30's.
Sure that makes me young in your Grandpa's eyes (and would you mind telling him to stop watching me, by the way?) but by most standards I'm quite ancient.

I would say no. They are because they lack the belief that there are deities. Some developed that lack of belief, some just never picked up the belief to begin with.
Besides, which one would they be rebelling against. It would be hard to chose a god you don't believe in to rebel against.

No not true at all.
I don't know for sure but I'll bet it is the opposite. Only after a person is mature enough to shed the brainwashing of the church do they really start to think for themselves.
Like you for instance, are you capable of independent thought?
I am still waiting on that name.

Generally, the older the age group, the higher the percentage of atheists (this effect tapers off after mid 40s though).
Interestingly, the higher the education level, the higher the percentage of atheists as well.

most actual atheists that I've met are not that young and used to be religious. My Father was a "born again" Christian when he was younger. It took time and experience to turn him into an atheist. Me? I've been agnostic most of my life......

No, it's because they grew up in an age where the internet was always there to debunk any ridiculous theist claims.
Is it true that most theists are old... people, they are because they fear dying?

No. I'm 52. Look at the conventions of the American Atheists, the donation list for the Secular Coalition for America, and the Old Fart Atheists on this page.
