Whats best for you depends on the type of foot your have, but nearly everyone benefits from shoes that have cushioning, good arch support, heels that are not raised, and rigid shanks in the soles that prevent the shoes from bending anywhere besides the ball of the foot. Shoes sold for nurses are usually very good choices in women's shoes. As someone else mentioned, New Balance makes a variety of running and walking shoes designed for cushioning and support.
If you want to try out inserts, it will be trial and error until you find one that works well. There are so many different insert designs and foot types, its sometimes hard to find the right product. You might start with either an arch support or a full-sized gel cushion.
Stretching you hamstrings and quadriceps also helps immensely, and this might even be more helpful than different shoes if you have tightness in either muscle group.

I do sometimes. I love heels! and I love flip flops! But when it comes to tennis shoes I like both. Not to mention a lot of guys shoes these days can look pretty girlie. I mean with the colors and prints and things like that. Also when it come to boots they can look a lot a like too. But I think it would depend on the size of your feet too. And as far as I know its been done for quite a while, girls wearing guys shoes. My mom does sometimes too.

A fairly new line of shoes has been released called Strictly Comfort. They have shoes of all designs and styles. Some are virtually weightless yet are sturdy enough for everyday wear. They are designed with comfort in mind, so it would be beneficial to check them out. They are sold in JCPenny and many other retail stores. For inserts, Dr. Scholls inserts are the #1 rated inserts for shoes. Hope this helps.
