Unfortunately, unless your former employer told a lie about you (and of course a lie is something that you can verify is untrue, not a negative opinion), you may not have much recourse, but of course you need to speak with an attorney to verify this one way or the other.
You may ask your lawyer about the effectiveness of sending a letter to your former employers specifically requesting that they NOT release information about you. That may have some effect on the employers he has yet to contact.

"Dirt" collected this way is "hearsay" and cannot be used. Your attorney can contact any of your past employers and ask that no information be given without your permission (even though this is not necessary by law) Most businesses are savvy enough not to be a part of things like this. Most are not even allowed to tell why a former employee was fired.

You should definitely consult your attorney on this. Employer's are not allowed to give out any information regarding current or former employee's due to the employee confidentiality laws. Any person seeking information on you will need a subpoena or other court documents saying that it is ok to release this information.

Why not have fun with it? Contact your former employers and inform them that he will probably be calling, then ask them to make up wild and completely insane stories about why you were fired.
Then when he comes to court for the custody hearing claiming that you are an unfit mother and tells the judge all these wild stories he will be found to be quite insane and they will give you custody.

Former employers shouldn't release any information without a release signed by you. If you can prove that they have, you MIGHT be able to sue for defamation.

Civil law, not criminal law. You need an attorney to give you the real info you need.

Yes, this is definite harrassment. File a report with the local law enforcement agency and bring a copy to the courthouse and file it in your divorce and custody proceedings. Then get a private investigator and get some information on him (legally). It sounds like you are going to need all the help you can get, so I would suggest consulting with an attorney as well, if you haven't done so already.
