xxvietxthugzxx - Might want to read their other questions. They don't sound like the 13 year old kid after you check them out.
The salary depends on a lot of things including skill set, location, industry, and employer size. If you are holding on to Pascal/Fortran/COBOL/etc... as your key programming languages, 70K is probably pretty high unless you are supporting a lot of legacy code. If you are a general IT (setup desktops and provide application support), I'd say 70K is average but that depends on where (rural vs. city) and what industry. I would recommend looking for a salary survey site and trying to compare your skills for the area you are working. They provide decent salary range information if you enter enough information.

Let's see, take into account location, perks, performance bonus, vacation, expenses, training opportunities, specific field, company, stock options, hours, signing bounus, did I mention location...Who knows. If the position is for help desk staffing, then I would say go for it. If it is for a network designer or DBA, then you might want to consider it under consideration. Basically, if you feel like it is a good salary and you can make a living on it, then that should be good enough. And I would agree, if someone had 13 years experience, then you should know or know how to find out if it is a good salary.

you did not say what kind of language you used/developed in, I personally think its a little low EXPECIALLY if you have vb.net/.net/c# experience (7 or more years, not sure if .net has been around that long but you get the idea)
I currently have @ 10 and I make a little more than that
BUT I have unix admin/network admin and software developement experience in both unix and I am beginning to learn windows (c# and asp.net)
but (and I am sure you have heard this before) the job is more important than the money, I would rather make less and have a job I love, rather than make more money and be miserable at work.

That is a pretty good salary for someone, considering how readily available programmers are due to outsourcing and the like. You will probably get a pay raise after a year or two after they see what you are capable of.

It depends on what part of the country your job is in. Keep in mind that private companies usually pay more than government employers.
