I seem to get into that problem a lot as well. Here is what I have discovered- if you buy random items you come up with new meals, but ten things to ALWAYS have on hand is,
boneless skinless chicken
unsalted dry-roasted nuts
frozen vegtables
fat free soup broth
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Canned crushhed or whole tomatoes
Chicken sausage
dried whole-wheat pasta.

Always have nutmeg, bacon bits, chili powder, chicken bouillon, red pepper, vanilla and liquid smoke.

Depending on what you want look for recipes on line. A lot of them are printable. Do you get magazines such as Southern Living? Those have good ideas. Buy a cookbook or order a set of them such as Taste of home, these are good. Do you go to church? If so see if they have or start a cook book everyone gives a recipe.

Good luck:)

I remember having someone take a look at my shopping list about 30 years ago and gasping out loud that I had the most boring list she'd ever seen! After that I was introduced to marinated artichoke hearts, dark chocolate, caesar salad and the likes! Sounds like you are bored with what you are preparing for you and your family so here are some ideas:

1. Figure out what your familie's favorite meal is and serve that once a week.
2. Try AllRecipes.com for some easy, new, and innovative recipes to try. You can also go into the Food Section at AOL and create your own cookbook.
3. Take a familiar favorite, such as spaghetti, and try adding some different ingrediants. Have you ever tried chopped artichoke hearts? Sliced Black Olives? Asiago cheese?
4. Experiment with fresh and dried herbs. To my marinara I always add dried Italian seasoning and 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil and oregano.
5. Make one meal a week vegetarian. And, that doesn't mean tofu! Create a pasta dish, or vegetable and rice dish that is appealing. Try the Vegetarian Times.com site for recipes.
6. Watch the FoodNetwork. My favorites are The Barefoot Contessa, Paula Deen, Michael Chiarello, and Road Tasted.
7. If you have time, create one new recipe a month.

Here are some favorites:

1. PorkChops Casserole: 2 boxes Kraft Mac and Cheese, 1 3 oz container cream cheese, 1/2 cup sour cream, 1 cup shredded low-fat cheddar, 4 - 6 pork chops, bone in, 1/2 inch thick or thinner, Seasoned salt, fresh ground pepper, 1 yellow onion and a little white wine. Season chops with salt and pepper and brown in olive oil. Cook mac and cheese and add cream cheese, sour cream and a dash of white wine. Top with shredded cheese. Layer mixture in bottom of prepared baking dish. Saute onion in rings in a little olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Place pork chops on top of mac and cheese and top with onions. Cover and bake for 45 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Serve with green beans or a green salad and brownies for dessert.
2. Spaghetti and Meatballs: If you have a favorite recipe for sauce, then by all means make it. To your meatballs, however, add fresh parmesan cheese, fresh basil and some red pepper flakes. Take 1 lb of mozarella cheese and cut it into 1/4 inch cubes. Place a cube inside of each meatball and fold meat around it. Saute to brown and then simmer in your sauce until serving time.
3. Marvelous mashed potatoes: 4 lbs yukon gold potatoes, 1 large container chicken broth, 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 tsp garlic, 1 tsp salt, fresh ground pepper, 1 cube lite margarine or butter. Boil potatos in chicken broth (add water if you need to), drain well and season with salt and pepper. Add sour cream and butter. Add garlic and mash with potato masher. If you'd like, add some fat free cream cheese to the mix and chopped green onion. Yum!
