you could just walk into a job and not even need a resume or anything ...if so, thats totally unfair..........im in my final year of a BA business degree and have been lookin for a job since i was like 16 and im almost 20 now and no one wants to hire me !! ....wow....i have 2 weeks experience in a bank lol but thats it .......every one demands minimum 3 months experience but how are you meant to get that if they dont give you a job....grr

Yes, it's true. Back in 'the day', say, 20 years ago, you would just go to a store or whatever, ask for a job application and fill it out. After you've finished, you would give it to the manager. He/she may call you in for a 5-minute long interview and possibly hire you afterwards. I'd gotten several jobs that way. Nowadays, you must have a resume and a cover letter to get a job. Any job, including a part-time one. You'd have to go through 1 to 5 long interviews (including a bunch of silly personal and psychological questions) depending on the job you want. It used to be simple and quick. Not anymore. I personally blame this on the events on 9/11/01. Peranoia everywhere. So many of our simple freedoms have been taken away from us. Getting even a simple job is one of them. If you're currently looking for a job, I wish you lots of luck and hope you're hired soon.

Yes, it absolutely was true. It was a much simpler time. Back in the old days I was able to get hired just over the phone without even a face to face interview.
