Mary was a person no better than you or me. God chose her to conceive the promised Messiah / Saviour of the world. But she could have chosen not not to trust in God and therefore refuse to be part of God's divine plan just as easily as when the Lord calls His children individually today to perform His perfect will and many never do because they are too busy with their own agendas that God's desires is 2nd place. God does not force any one person to "do" His will. First, our hearts have to be lined up with His....and Mary's heart was exactly that.

It's not as if God would have chosen the wrong woman! "Oops", picture God saying, "sorry, wrong woman - let me keep looking until I find someone willing". The Bible teaches us that God knows everything. He even knows what your thoughts are going to be about my post before you think them. God exists outside of time. Therefore, He sees your past, present and future. Picture God above an earthly timeline. He can see the beginning of time, end of time or any time in between. He created you! He knows you! He also knows whether you will accept His Son who died on the cross to save you from your sins.

Gwen H, the reason the JW cried is because she felt sorry for you! You are truly a confused individual! Did you re-read what you wrote as an answer? You're all over the place! I'm crying too because you're so ignorant! I hope you find Christ, give Him a chance to turn your life around and maybe you too will see the light! I'm not a JW and I don't believe everything that they believe, but somethings have foundation.
May Christ Bless you!

No.
But that implies that God didn't knew what Mary's answer would be. But God knows everything, so he knew she would say yes...
(Extra atheist segment ;-p)
... So, she had no choice. Except, that all humans have free will. But if God knows all, he knows everything we're going to do before we even think about it and acts on that. So we have no free will.
But, because humans have free will, we can commit actions that damn us to h*ll. But God already knows, the moment we are created, that we are doomed to h*ll. So he creates us so we can literally go to h*ll?
God creates us to make choices, but he already knows what our choices will be. Then, where is the choice?
(I made a Jehovah witness cry with that one... hehe... I'm evil.)

I don't know- but God probably would have chosen someone willing. Sometimes things happen to us that we don't expect nor plan on though.... However, God knew Mary's heart when he chose her, so he knew her answer before He asked.

She got pregnant out of wedlock because she wasn't born again yet, after her son grew up she accepted him as her Lord and savior and changed her life.
The moral is: Being omnipotent is a good thing you always know who to date.
Blessed Be!

As far as I know, she didn't really have a choice--The spirit came upon her and she was pregnant--not a whole lot of activity on her part...

God had the power to put it into her mind to do his will if it accomplished his purpose. It was a lineage thing, and the time was right, and she was the person to accomplish that task. So my answer is, "Yes."
