Religion may attempt to help with the understanding of life, but unfortunately it is something so vast and bigger than us the best a person can do is open their mind to all of the wonders that we know of in the universe and come up with their own personal concept of what "life" is. Hopefully with enough time spent philosophizing on the subject we can gain some comprehension of it.

NO. Religion is not an answer, it is a question. That is why Jesus spoke in parables. If he wanted to give us answers he would of written a book. ( If he knew how to read and write?) It is our job to search for the answers to the questions, that is why there are so many "religions." Life is the journey, not the destination. I'm coming toward the end of mine but if God has an Email address, I'll send you a note. Get a copy of Tolstoy's book, "The kingdom of God is within you.". I have searched all my life and not found very much. I do not know who or what God is, but I have this feeling that he (or she) loves me. I cannot conceive of a parent sending their child to HELL!

Depends on your mentality, I mean we all want to believe in a greater power and we all feel we have to be here for a purpose, yet if anyone can figure out the universe and it's purpose, by the time it hits the net all things will have changed. But hey live in the now , choose what you want to believe and live like today is your last because we all know s#$@ happens but what ever it is you do trust your own morals and they will guide you to where you can atleast seek the right information good luck

It's the global desire of humanity to understand life that gives us the clue that there is a reason behind it. The Christian Bible says that God has set eternity in the hearts of men. That's why we long to know about life, why we die and whether there's anything beyond the grave.
Evolutionary theories tell us there's no reason for life and no purpose in living apart from propagating the species. "Survival of the fittest" is a dismally depressing theory that leads to selfishness and brutality. Yet humanity is amazingly selfless and kind! The Bible says God created us in his image (with his characteristics) and also explains why sin corrupted us and leads to all the misery that we bring on ourselves and the planet. Further it shows how God has overcome sin and death through Christ coming to earth as a man. You don't get more honest than Jesus Christ. I encourage you to consider him.

Hi!
Each one of us is in relationship with the universe which gave us meaning. The world religions and philosophies are like a library of books that contain insights that will help us in our efforts to understand more of the mystery, but we must each make our own discoveries as to what is meaningful and makes sense. Anyone claiming to be of faith who thinks the only way is to force others to adopt their views has missed the point. Yes, we should share and tell people what we think and believe, but we must also listen to what their culture, faith and experience has revealed to them. We don't have to dilute ourselves to learn from another, but we need to be discerning enough to disregard any ideas that are divisive or destructive. Anything that does not express inclusive love should start our alarm bells ringing.
Good wishes.

Life is not really possible to understand. Not fully. We can parse out the rules of physics and such, but as for the origin of the universe or the question of a creator, we can only guess.
A guy with a beard zapping the universe into existence seems just as unbelievable as the universe springing forth from an unprecedented void for no particular reason.
The answer for our purposes is that we don't really need an answer. If we feel inclined, we can make one up, but it is nothing to lose sleep over in my opinion. Live well, and maybe find out later.

Life is possible to understand in extremely limited ways, but not in its entirety. Myself, I find it incredibly contrived. We run around on a giant spinning rock and kill each other and talk and try to get onto other spinning rocks, and our main light source is a gigantic ball of nuclear-reacting gas billions of miles away. Is it just me, or is that weird?
As for your other question, I suppose it depends what religion and how literally you take it. Religion is a wonderful way to rationalize things, to explain things completely beyond your comprehension, and to give meaning to pointless injustices, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's right to do so.

No, religion is just another form of control - like advertising. The only way to understand life is to live it & then die.

Life is almost impossible to completely understand due to mankind's limited understanding of nature and oneself entirely. Religion is not an honest way to explain life itself, trying to understand God and his perfect plans for you is the best way to explain life, not religion (man's creation).

it is one attempt to try to understand. There are many different religions, so there are many different ways to try to understand.
Science is another way trying to understand life, it does take a different approach from religion.
Both can be useful, but in a different way.
