The other day, this woman SLAMMED into the back of my car as I was stopped at a stoplight. She was lighting a cigarette and not paying attention. I then motioned her to pull over with me and she TOOK OFF. There was hardly any damage (nothing that I will have fixed) and I filed a police report. I have her name and am going to write her a letter just so she knows how mad I am and that she really needs to be more careful. Should I include my name on this? Or is that dangerous? What an idiot!!

I certainly wouldn't threaten her.

Hi Kristen,

Well, personally I think it is probably a waste of time to mail her. If, by sending her this letter there were a positive outcome, what would you hope it to be? In my mind there really isn't any kind of an outcome to this. Nobody was hurt, no damage / money loss on anyone's part.

I agree that the lady was an @ss for taking off. But I can't see where sending a letter to her is going to change her behavior in the future or make her feel bad about taking off.

If you decide to go ahead and write her then include your name. Let her know that you do things right, you are a person with an identity and a life. Signing your name shows that you have confidence in the communication and that you are right.

If you don't sign your name then you are showing her that you are afraid of her or afraid of consequences in response to your letter.

well if u filed a police report then the next time she goes to get her license she will not be able to re new cause this incident will be on her record and she will have to clear the matter up before she is allowed to renew her license . did you get her tag number maybe she was driving someone else s car and was afraid I know that is no excuse but it could be one of the reasons she did not stop or that she had no d/l at all . and if that is the case why the police did not go after her i dont know cause in every state that I know of hit and run is a felony . I would insist on pressing charges if I were you and let her sit her behind in jail a few days she might get the hint. good luck .

I would not write a letter. Let the proper authorities handle it. If she took off, she should be charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

If you write the letter, she will be able to find out who you are through the police report, and it could cause a lot more problems for you than you want.

Since you don't know the person, and they just took off, I wouldn't include my name, but mabey my telephone number, in case they want to contact you for any reason. Then you can ask them questions and find out about them before you give them your name (incase they're serial murderers.)

Leave it up to the Police. It is a hit and run case.
I would not send a letter.

Don't waste your time on it. She has likely moved on with your life so you need to move on. You are not going to teach her a lesson or make her have have any great realization. Just drop it.

I wouldn't write anything. It could be considered a threat though the USPS which can be construed these days as terrorism.
