How very arrogant we have all become! "Does not exist" seems to be a lot of answers: not, I don't believe or, I do not think, but straight down the line......
I personally believe in purgatory as that part of Hell which is temporary as opposed to that part of hell which is for ever.
Did not the Saviour of the World, "descend into Hell" when He died, before rising to Glory on the third day?

+ Purgatory +

The concept of purgation is hinted at in the Bible. Here are a couple of places:

"But if someone's work is burned up, that one will suffer loss; the person will be saved, but only as through fire." 1 Cor 3:15

"So that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ." 1 Pet 1:7

Are you perfect now? Most people would say no.

Will you be perfect in heaven? Most people believe yes.

Purgatory (or purgation) is the process of God's love changing our imperfect selves on earth into perfect beings in heaven. Depending on the amount of change needed by different people, this can be an easy or slightly harder process. Everyone in purgatory is on his or her way to heaven. I do not think Mother Teresa of Calcutta had a very hard time of it.

+ Sources of Doctrine +

The Catholic Church does not only use Holy Scripture for the basis of doctrine. The early Catholic church existed before and during the time that the New Testament was written (by Catholics).

Catholics also believe that the Holy Spirit was guiding the early church (and is guiding the church today) to make the correct choices about things like
- The Holy Trinity (which is also only hinted at in the Bible)
- Going to church on Sunday instead of Saturday (which is actually directly against one of the ten commandments)
- Which books to include in the New Testament?
- How do our imperfect selves on earth get to be perfect in heaven?

This second source of doctrine is called Apostolic Tradition.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 1030: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art12.htm#1030

+ The Bible +

Catholics believe that the Bible teaches truth about God but it is not historically factual at all times.

The Bible's primary purpose is to teach us the truth about God and His (or Her) love for us, not to teach facts about history, science or countries undiscovered at the time.

All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

+ With love in Christ.

1. Purgatory is never mentioned in the bible.....it was a theory adapted by the Cathlic religion that was supposed to symbolize being between heaven and hell....but there really is no such thing

1. Purgatory doesn't exist. The Bible says that we die once, and then comes the judgement.

2. Israel had no contact with the Japanese or Chinese. Simple, really. There's no mention of Israel in Japanese or Chinese writings of the same period, either.

I personally do not believe in purgatory. You have to receive Jesus and live for Him here on the earth. When we die we go to heaven or hell. When we die an angel greets us with the Lambs Book of Life and if our names are not in that book, then we go to hell.
I'm sorry, I don't have an answer for the 2nd one. I would have to ask someone else why they are not specifically named. Neither is the United States, but we are all gentiles.

Purgatory does not exist. The elevator goes to the penthouse or to the basement, nothing in between. As for question 2, I guess there was no CNN to report to the writers of the Bible that they were there.

1. Doesn't exist.
2. There weren't any East Asians in the Middle East when the Bible was written. They are written about in so far as they would have been some of the language groups that split up from the Tower of Babel.

The Cathoic doctrine of Purgatory was invented by Gregory I 593. It is not Biblical.

Jesus died to pay the penalty for all of our sins (Romans 5:8). Isaiah 53:5 declares, “but He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.” Jesus suffered for our sins so that we could be delivered from suffering. To say that we must also suffer for our sins is to say that Jesus’ suffering was insufficient. To say that we must atone for our sins by cleansing in Purgatory is to deny the sufficiency of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus (1 John 2:2). The idea that we have to suffer for our sins after death is contrary to everything the Bible says about salvation.

The Bible does not name all of the different races.

The people who cobbled the Bible together out of a loose collection of folk tales were not acquainted with the people of the Far East, but were of the opinion that the world they occupied was the extent of it.
