My mom's back is hurting bad. It's been that way for about two days. She doesn't really have any of the symptoms of kidney infection but should she check it out anyway? She's been laying around a lot since she watches my baby cousin. She thinks that could be a cause too. I told her to go to the doctor. What is everyone's advise?

It doesn't hurt her to urinate or anything and she doesn't have a fever. She's constantly moving it seems when she's not watching my cousin three days out of the week. She cleans banks at night and she's in pretty good shape. But it could be a pulled muscle. If it still hurts tomorrow I'm going to make her go to the doctor. Thanks for the advice everyone.

The main symptom of a kidney infection is back pain. It makes it really hard to sleep at night. People have also said that kidney stones have some of th same pain in th back as well. She should go see a doctor. For some antibiotics. Left untreated will land her in the hopital on I.V antibiotics and in tremendous pain.

I have had kidney infections twice, with no other symptoms no pain when urinating or anything else. Once while pregnant with my first and another about a year ago. The second one not so bad the first one while I was prego landed me in the hospital for the most miserable 3 days of my life.

If a few days ago or a week ago even it hurt her to go pee, or if there was a strange feeling then she should get checked out. Kidney infections can poison the blood, I had that happen last year and it throws you into a fever and its really really dangerous. So you might like to try and convince her.. theres no reason to put off a back problem but if shes has to pick up kids alot lately she could have just pulled her back.

btw with a kidney infection her urine would be cloudy and not really a bright yellow. There might be red specks in it too... Cranberry juice should be taken in moderation because it can strip her track raw too...

Definitely, she should go to a doctor. You can have a kidney infection with just pain symptoms, and no others for a while. Tell your mother she should at least go get a urine test and blood test to see if her kidneys are functioning correctly.
Or, if she is looking after a baby, she could have just picked up the baby wrong, and pulled a muscle.

Might as well go to the doctor. I would assume it's not a kidney infection or she'd be having pain while urinating, blood in urine, etc. However, you never know. Could be a lot of things, just go see a doc and get it taken care of so you guys don't have to worry. Good luck!

Could be back strain from picking your baby cousin and putting her down. Also she is doing a lot of bending changing her. The constant strain on her back is probably what is wrong with her. Have her to use heat and take a pain reliever. If she gets any relief, it probably isn't a kidney infection.

well to me it sounds like kidney stones and trust me they hurt like a ***** I have had kidney stones 5 times in the last 19 months I had one stuck for 9 months and it finally passed a few weeks ago but she should drink plenty of water to flush it out but if it does not pass within a few days it may be stuck and need to be removed. Ibuprofen helped manage the pain some, so good luck and if she does pass it tell her to keep it and bring it to the doctors to be analyzed to see what is causing them because chances are once you have it once you will get them again .

Go to the doctor - she can have a bad back and if it is a minor kidney infection, tell her to buy some AZO and plenty of cranberry juice and water - take a couple of ibuprofen and she should feel better.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

Maybe she just has pulled a muscle in her back or has a sore back? If she had a kidney infection she'd have a fever.
