I recently read a question asking about why the Christians are picked on so much on here.

Can any of the regular users please explain to them just how persecuted Christianity REALLY is in today's society or even just here on Yahoo Answers?

I'm a bit grumpy to be linguistically inclined, and I'm just gonna get insulting if I try to answer...

I'm especially looking for Christian answerers.

I think I did answer that question, and told him that everyone gets insulted at one point or another on R&S.

In America today, Christians are not persecuted in the least. I think such notion is an insult to those who have been truely persecuted in the past, no matter their religion.

But there's no reasoning with people like that. If they want to see themselves as a maryr, they'll find a way.

I don't feel persecuted in the US, as a matter of fact, most people are assumed to be Christan (it seems). The only thing that makes is seem like we are persecuted is because on this forum, people who aren't Christians are given the opportunity to ask the hard core questions. Some Christians get defensive and make it worse, and other non Christians have been told so many times on here that they are pretty much wrong for not being a christian.
This forum makes us all aware just how much some Christians are trying to instill our beliefs on the whole country (US). Homosexuality, abortion, etc are just a few examples. I was really shocked to learn that congress opens in prayer.

US fought one war to free it from the persecution of religion, and it seems like we are doing it to the non believers. Regardless of our own beliefs, we have no right to try and force someone else to follow our beliefs.

Because they define not being able to cram their beliefs on everyone else, and expectations of rational behavior and discussion, as persecution.

I have actually become LESS tolerant reading the drivel that comes across this screen. Ignorance. Pure ignorance characterized by the inability to tolerate other opinions. And they ask questions to "other christians"' just so they don't have to confront other points of view. That, kids, is called cult behavior.
Many of the xtians here do seem to be of a particularly simple-minded sort. (Note I said 'many', not all- there are, fortunately, a redeeming few).
Fundamentalism is a disease currently dragging society into the past, and YA is just one more example of the disease.

By xtian standards, then, are xtian missionaries who knock on the door of an obviously Jewish home even when they've been asked not to persecutors?
And what about finding out the nanny tried to convert my kids? And felt ENTITLED to? WHO is persecuted in america? Everyone who has enough logic to question xtians!

Every time I hear one of the 90-percenters here in the US talk about the "persecution of Christians in our country" I want to puke. What they're squeaking about is they're trying to persecute everyone else and they keep getting slapped down by the Constitution.
American Christians have no idea what real persecution or oppression are. They should be praying they never find out.

They are being told that they can't have prayer in puglic schools. They are being told that they can't determine whats right for everyone just because their bible says so (ex. homosexuality and abortion). They are being told that ID has no place in science classrooms. They are being told that people don't like them having their own personal tv channels, knocking on their doors, etc.

Oh yes, Christianity is so persecuted. They're being forced to be treated the same as every else. What a horrible thing. btw... that was sarcasm.

Christians aren't persecuted. They run the world.

Apparently persecution is being questioned about your belief systems.

I am always surprised at how sensative Christians get at being questioned or made fun of. Imagine having a personal relationship with the only all powerful Deity, being able to move mountains with your faith alone, and then getting upset when someone says you are a bit nuts.

Wouldn't someone with such powerful friends be a little more stable and confident?

OMGs, braynaysmom...

Really, you have your car jacked because of the Jesus Fish? Or you get told you can't shop somewhere because you wear a cross? Or people throw things at you because of your religion?

Please, do tell how you are persecuted against. I'd love to know.

And I'm a happy, productive and helpful atheist. I don't need an imaginary friend to police me.

Anyone up for a link?

The link leads to an article discussing the crucifixion of Iraqi Christians recently.

Subtle moves are what is threatening American Christians. Slowly, certain modes of free speech are being taken from Christians, it won't be long before tax exempt status is reexamined. The path we are on leads to one end, if you disagree that is ok because you will only have to sit back and watch to see it unfold.
Another subtle issue that is even more insidious: hate speech toward Christians. Stereotyping of Christians in a negative way is not only popular but seems almost to be required. I have seen so many ideas that astonish me concerning others beliefs about how I must be because I am Christian that frequently I am simply dumbfounded. We are herded together in the mind and subsequently condemned as one large group regardless of individual belief. I am frightened sometimes at the idea of being judged according to what some believe a Christian actually is.

We Christians in american have to face some annoyances, but this (and impolite posts on Y!A esp.) doesn't compare with what our brothers and sisters in christ are suffering overseas. A brother in North Korea has been sentenced to death recently, countless have been sold as slaves in Sudan, churches have been burned all over indonesia, christian teenagers are raped or assaulted in Pakistan.... Sort of makes being called stupid on Y!A not seem all that bad.

Christians are the main stream religion in America. There are many of them who want to make America a theocracy in order to make Christian "values" required. They believe that since the nation was founded by Christians then freedom of religion applies only to them. They insist we out their God back into schools and govt and keep it on money. How the hell is that persecuted??
